So the day has nearly come. My 21st birthday. My Golden Birthday. 21 on the 21st. I never would have dreamed of celebrating it in another country much less Prague! I will miss my Nonnah's cake... so I'll just virtually share a slice with you. :) 

Seeing that I am in a country where the idea of turning 21 does not bear the same weight that it does in the States, I can always celebrate a little early! Tonight, a few of my friends and I are going to the Globe Cafe for Movie Trivia Night. An expat hang out, they'll probably understand!

Then, tomorrow, for my lucky day? Nothing says Happy Birthday like 3 classes in a row from 8:15 to 5:30. After that, we're grabbing dinner and going out somewhere. Where? I don't know. My only request? I don't want to plan it. :)

For once this is actually a vaguely diary-like post. We had an Oscars theme at Globe today - which meant red carpet, film-pun-named food (Grape Escape, Melon Rouge, Scone with the Wind etc), Walk of Fame stars on the floor and costumes (I was Indiana Jones, Mike was a Jedi, the girls dressed nicely, but disappointing effort from the boys...).

I did the talk, I wasn't down to do one this term, but the original person dropped out, so I agreed to.  I was continuing a sort of series we're doing, so I picked up with Joshua and the conquest of Jericho. I tried to tie it in with the theme - imagining an epic historic movie.

The main thrust was to take Rahab and Achan and compare and contrast them - Rahab had no right to a place in the people of Israel, but gained it through faith. Achan on the other hand was in a privileged position and yet lost it because he preferred to run after other things and not have faith in God.

I then described the Bible as a grand love story of God mending our broken relationship with God getting Best Director, Best Actor and all the technical awards. I like the Best Actor illustration because it ties into the significance of Jesus being God getting right involved with His world, rather than just calling the shots.

So I then talked about the choice between accepting and rejecting God - that if we reject God He will ultimately reject us like with Achan, or we can trust God like Rahab and He will save us from the coming judgement (her house must have been a pointed illustration of this - it was in the city walls - which all collapsed, so there must have just been one section standing - the bit containing her house) but not only that we will be made full members of His family (Rahab not only became an Israelite but is a direct ancestor of Jesus Himself, and is listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews).

Anyway, I think it went fairly well, and Globe was fun too :)

Cricket tomorrow morning, followed by work - maybe integrating a whiteboard into my project, and then a practice for the Emmanuel music night in the evening. I'm in the band for the music night - we're doing three songs: Sweet Home Alabama, Sultans of Swing and Johnny B Goode (hopefully replete with Back to the Future intro...).
