âCome on, jump! Iâll catch you, I promise!â You hiss to the brunette standing on the opposite building as you.
â(Y/N), I canât! What if you drop me!â Lydia called back, glancing behind her to see how close the walkers were getting.
âI wonât! Please, just come on! I canât lose you too!â Lydia was your best friend from before the apocalypse, and still remained your best (and only) friend now.
Lydia took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and ran for the edge of the building. Her eyes shot open as she leapt, a wild mix between fear and excitement blazing in them.
Everything seemed to go in slow motion as she flew through the air, raising one of her hands for you to grab. You tried to reach out but realized in a panic that your arms would not be long enough to reach all the way without you falling too.
That did not stop you from trying anyway, and you felt a huge weight as Lydia began descending downward, pulling you with her.
You should have fallen and both died from impact-or walkers. But at that exact moment, a strong pair of arms wrapped around your torso, causing you and your friend to stay in place.
âEasy now. Iâm gonna pull your friend up, can you hold her until then?â A male voice asked, and you assumed it was whoever stood behind you.
You nodded in response, your breath hitching as the support left, but you held on and remained upwards.
There was then someone by your left side, his hand shooting down, and Lydiaâs moving up. The man got a grip on her and began counting down.
âOne, two, three!â You both pulled up, your muscles struggling with the weight of the girl.
Between the two of you (though mostly because of the man), Lydia was raised back up to safety, her body shaking.
âYou okayâŠ?â The man trailed off, and you assumed he was asking your friends name.
âLydia.â She responded, bending over so her hands were on her knees. âAnd yeah, Iâm okay. Thank you.â
The man turned to you, cocking one of his eyebrows. âGlenn.â He spoke with authority, sticking his hand out for you.
In turn, you smiled, grabbing the manâs hand. â(Y/N),â you responded, letting your hand drop back to your side. âThank you, by the way. We really appreciate your help.â
Glenn also smiled while nodding. âObviously. We do have to look out for each other.â You felt strangely attracted to the manâs voice, it was deep yet sweet. You took a small step forward, getting closer to him.
Lydia cleared her throat and you quickly broke eye contact, glancing down at the ground. âWell, I guess we should get goingâŠâ You trailed off, unsure of what you were doing.
âYou have a group to get back to?â Glenn asked, a curious look in his eyes.
âNah, weâre just wandering,â Lydia answered, coming over to stand next to you.
âIn a world like this? Excuse the clichĂ©, but should two people really be out here alone?â He almost sounded worried, and his face fell to a frown.
âWell, we donât have anywhere else to go. Why, do you?â You questioned, wondering where exactly this man had come from.
âWellâŠyes.â Glenn paused, looking down to the ground. âIâm not supposed to do this, but for you twoâŠâ
You and Lydia glanced at each other, your brows furrowed.
âHow many people have you killed?â
