The Vinter Region mountains slopes have many danger's one of which is the their Region Convergent form of Geodude, Graveler and Golem - Â Snowdude, Glaceler and Snowlem.
These Fakemon roll down the mountain during the day and climb back up during the night only to repeat the cycle all over again the following day. Researchers are still trying to understand why these Fakemon do this but some believed its to do with foraging for food, others have pointed out the Vinter Region Onyx variant eats Snowdude, Glaceler and Snowlem, so it's also believed that this constant in-motion life is to avoid getting caught by by these Fakemon.

You can blame platform games for this idea. Just something about wanting to dodge giant boulder's in Pokemon game amuses me, especially if it turns out their boulder's are monster that you can battle.
I'm sure in game player's would utterly hate it, having haphazardly dodge these Fakemon, but I just really like the idea of making it very clear that theVinter Region is a very dangerous place and their are very few locations where you can take it easy and most of those are in settlements.
