“Friday at seven… I’d like us to go somewhere… Kunihiro… you… no–wait, shit.”  Izuminokami crossed his arms, mumbling to himself as re-evaluated his phrasing to fit the meter of the haiku.  “Kunihiro would… you like to go somewhere with… no.”

“It must be hard with your sense of direction, never being able to find your way to a decent pickup line.”

“Go away Kashuu,” Izuminokami grumbled.

“I’m glad you’re finally getting a move on… but a haiku, really?”  

“It’s my signature!” 

“No one ever said it was any good though…” Kashuu smirked as he picked at a batch of weeds with gloved hands.  Fieldwork was one of his least favorite activities, but at least Izuminokami was making it entertaining.  “Where are you taking him?”

“None of your business!” Izuminokami huffed and swung his spade into the soil.  It wasn’t that composing a haiku was all that difficult, it just needed to have the exact tone.  Or something.  

He’d figure it out eventually.  Away from Kashuu’s prying ears.

“Well don’t you look dashing!”  Kashuu gasped, putting a manicured hand to his mouth.

“Super cool!” Yasusada chimed in.  “Did you get those clothes from Shokudaikiri?”

“What are you two doing here?!?!  You’re not turning this into a double date!!!”  What Izuminokami had been hoping to see was a shy Kunihiro waiting for him with expectant eyes, not these two meddlers!  How had they even heard where their date was going to be?

“It’s not a double date.  We’re just third and fourth wheeling,” Kashuu giggled, holding up a three with his fingers while Yasusada held up four of his own.  “Just to make sure you don’t royally screw things up.”

“What makes you think–”

“Kashuu told me about the haiku.  Horikawa is pretty much the only person that would work on.”  Yasusada gave a sympathetic look that Izuminokami wanted to rip off his face.

“So lame!”  

“Ah!  I see Horikawa-kun!” Yasusada suddenly grabbed Kashuu’s arm, pulling him away and into hiding.  “Let’s go Kiyomitsu!  Goooooood luck Izuminokami!”

“You’re gonna need it!” Kashuu cackled.

“You can’t die. Please don’t die.”

Izuminokami Kanesada was a strong and very cool sword.  But such qualities did little to protect those around him from all harm.  Strong as he was, he wasn’t invincible, and he had never felt as powerless as he did now as he knelt by Kunihiro’s body, clinging tight to the wakizashi’s hand.  

“You can’t die, Kunihiro!  Please don’t die.”  

It seemed ludicrous to think that a sword could do something like ‘die.’  As a fairly young sword, Izuminokami had been rather spoiled.  Unlike other swords in the citadel who had seen centuries of warfare break the blades of various companions, he had never--

Horikawa coughed weakly and groaned from the pain in his side.

“Kunihiro!  Just hang in there!”

“Kane-san...”  

“Kunihiro!”

“Oh shut up, both of you,” Yagen grumbled as he finished tying up the bandages.  “So dramatic, how many times do I have to tell you it’s nowhere near a fatal wound?” 

“But--but he was bleeding!” Kane-san shrieked.

“It’s only his first deployment,” Horikawa said apologetically to the tantou.  “Forgive him, please.  He worries for me.”

“Bleeding doesn’t mean dying,” Yagen sighed.  “Now get out; you’re taking up space, and I need room to tend to the others.”  

“So you’re going to be okay?” Izuminokami turned back to Horikawa, kissing the knuckles of his hand.  “You’re not dying?”

“I’ll be fine, Kane-san.  Don’t cry.”

Heya there!! I usually start off with 3200x3200 canvas size since I like working with square canvas, and yeah I think using bigger canvas would be helpful because you can work on the detail better?

Some people have their own canvas size preference tho. Mine is always around 3200 because it fits in my screen nicely.
