I can't wake up.

I hear you, mom. I hear you sniffling over my bed, begging me to please come back to you, to wake up again. I can feel the sadness of my father as he slowly starts to understand that his family is never going to be the same, realizing that he will never feel his daughter hug him back or attend her wedding.

Here's the thing, though. I've tried everything under the sun that I could possibly try to wake up for you, I've willed myself back into my body as many times as I've done anything in my short and miserable life.

Suddenly, against all odds, I somehow start to open my eyes. I struggle into a sitting position, my mothers tears of devastation slowly turning to joy, her family whole. I lean in to hug her and my father, finally free from the prison of my own comatose body, when-snap!

I wake up, unable to move. Both my parents are back in their original positions, weeping over my lifeless form I once filled with my energy and personality. 

I keep waking up.
