I’ve talked a few times before about my struggle with Impostor Syndrome in my pursuit of a Software Development degree. Sometimes no matter how successful I am in my classes, I still find myself feeling like I’m really just a fraud and don’t know what I’m doing. But other times there’s those little things that make me feel like I really am a “real programmer.” 

I’m working on a web development project using a lot of PHP. I had some things I wanted my program to do, but I wasn’t sure how to accomplish it, and hadn’t really had a lot of luck with Google. Then just now, while doing something completely different, I had an epiphany on how I could accomplish my tasks. I haven’t had the chance to actually try out my idea, so I don’t know if it’ll actually work yet, but I’m pretty sure it should. 

The thing I’m excited about, is that this tells me that I’m thinking like a programmer in my daily life, that this stuff really is sinking in, and I really do understand it. Not just on a superficial level where I can figure it out if you put all of the instructions in front of me. But on a deeper level, this stuff has penetrated my way of thinking and really sunk in. I can solve these problems in my own head, through my own knowledge of the subject.

Supermodel Karlie Kloss Tells Women To Learn Code — And We Love Her For It

“Recent Vogue cover girl and all-around American sweetheart Karlie Kloss has added a new line to her expanding resume: coding advocate.

The supermodel has partnered with the NYC-based Flatiron School to establish the Kode with Karlie scholarship, which provides an intensive two-week training course where young women can learn to code.

After taking a summer course at the school herself, Kloss became passionate about promoting coding amongst women, stating to The Guardian, “I think it’s crucial that young women learn to code as early as possible to ensure that we as young women have a voice and a stake in what the world looks like.”

With a prominent social media presence and an ubiquitous Victoria’s Secret contract, Kloss is a powerful instrument in encouraging girls who might never have considered coding to pursue careers in technology and web development. Her initiative, as well as programs like Girls Who Code, will provide women with the opportunity to discover the creative capacity within coding. This marks a significant shift towards addressing workplace inequality, and hopefully, the first of many steps in closing the wide gender gap in the tech world.

#HACKGIRLSRIGHTS - IGNITE International Girls Hackathon 

“In February 2015 more than 70 girls in five international cities participated in the IGNITE International Girls Hackathon, a project of Global Fund for Women. During the Hackathon, girl coders worked in teams to create a new website or application that could increase girls’ access to safe spaces in their communities (both online and physical).
