MonochromeMonday shout out from our friends at @biglifeafrica and #wildographer @Jerry.goss with this fabulous shot of SKYSCRAPERS OF THE AFRICAN SAVANNA. Giraffes might only have received a cameo role in the Lion King, but the film, and more importantly Africaβs wild spaces, would be incomplete without them. These gentle giants are icons of the African bush but sadly their future on the continent is anything but certain. Habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and poaching for bush-meat have all contributed to an estimated 40% decline in their numbers over the past three decades. There are now thought to be approximately 100,000 giraffes left in Africa, which means that there are about four times as many elephants alive as there are giraffes. Despite isolated incidents of poaching the giraffe population of Amboseli is comparatively safe, much of this thanks to the Big Life rangers who spend their days protecting these creatures just as diligently as they do elephants and lions. So as you go about your day please spare giraffes, and the people keeping them safe. #Wildography #AfricanSafaris #giraffe #giraffeconservation #biglifefoundation #blackandwhite #wildlifephotography #jeremygoss https://www.instagram.com/p/CBcx-exAbkE/?igshid=1vplx6v8cynaw
