Gindaco Details Tamagotchi Plaza Collaboration
Initially announced back in September, and now there are more details to share. Gindaco (Tsuji Gindaco), Japan’s largest takoyaki fast-food chain has detailed the upcoming Tamagotchi Plaza collaboration. To celebrate the latest software update version 1.5.0 that adds the takoyaki shop the collaboration brings exclusive takoyaki fun!
You can enjoy the exclusive Tamagotchi Plaza themed packaging when you order 24 takoyaki, and get one of two exclusive Gindaco x Tamagotchi Plaza stickers. There are two different 24 packs to choose from, the danran pack (¥1,944), and the waiwai pack (¥2,160).
The collaboration starts on Monday, October 20th, 2025, and ends when supplies of the packages and stickers run out. Be sure to check the list of participating stores here.
one of the singular pleasures of the like a dragon franchise is seeing kamurocho persist across time. there are so few games that are as devoted to one place as yakuza is—even games in the same series frequently radically change that location between installments: mass effect's citadel is never the same twice, gta's various cities seldom repeat and are built from the ground up with each new game. but kamurocho persists, and persists so comprehensively that it's possible to feel nostalgia for the restaurants and businesses you frequented in earlier decades. I still miss the takoyaki stand at the end of tenkaichi street that got replaced by a gelateria, and finding that shine had closed sometime between yakuza 6 and judgment and been replaced by a member's only hostess club gave me a weird moment. i haven't been to these places—i have no actual experiences to be nostalgic for—and even diagetically these are marginal spaces at best; I doubt kiryu would care that the hostess club he went to every time he was in town shut down, and definitely not the takoyaki stand. but somehow i feel the same dislocation i did driving down broadway after the extended covid isolation and seeing all the new buildings that went up in the meantime. it's a rare magic trick in any medium, but especially in video games.

Gindaco claims to be Japan’s #1 takoyaki chain. It’s located inside the Tokyo Central food court. There are four kinds of Takoyaki. They also have yakisoba. You can watch them make the Takoyaki (octopus balls) on the hot griddle. An order of takoyaki includes 8 balls. By the time I finished paying for my order, they had my order packed and ready to go (super fast).
Scallion with yuzu ponzu (8 balls for $7.50): Their takoyaki balls have the crispiest exterior that I’ve ever had. I guess that’s a good thing…I was surprised by it though. The balls did not deflate. The interior was hot and moist with one tiny piece of octopus per ball, a bit of pickled ginger and chopped scallions. The balls were covered with scallions and thin, smoky bonito flakes. The light ponzu sauce was citrusy and not too salty.
I’d like to try more flavors…
