the print shake effect is used alot now for like vintagey photo filters its sorta like the 3d effect but with all the colors go to tumblr,com/tagged/print%20shake :)
to be honest I don't know how to do it in proper ways but maybe you can google and find some tutorial on it but otherwise this is how I did it:
this is the image I used
and I adjust the saturation to maximum so here is the result
and then I did the same as the 3d thing, (duplicate the layer and go to color >> colorize) and then set it to lighten only at 78 in opacity and move it a bit to the right and here's the result

you'll need some good fonts obv, I recommend you to look up on fonts website such as losttype.com and dafont.com, tumblr tag "fonts" are usually helping much!
as this one, I use fonts listed below:
Carnivalee Freakshow
Duke
Epidemia
Governor
2. Create a new canvas on GIMP, mine are 500 x 600, after that just go on fill the background with the background color you choose
3. This is actually not really that necessary if you have a good sensing about measuring, but as for you and me that don't really know to measure evenly, we have to use a border, so our texts will be solid
create an even rectangle select in the middle of the canvas, create a new layer
then fill the layer with whatever color you choose, it's not really matter cause in the end we're not gonna use it
and then lower the opacity of the fill layer until it's not that visible
4. Now we start to make the texts, select the text tool, and then with click-and-drag, create an area for your text, and make sure the width is the same as the width of our fill layer, then start typing and edit the font name and font size etc, adjust the size of the font until it fully fill the width of the fill layer
add more text below
edit as always, (note: the color of the font can be edit in the end but it's not wrong to always edit them right away!)
if you feel like color the font right now
and then add more and more text!
also if you want to use different fonts in a line, you better make another text beside it, this will make you easier to place the texts to fill in and make the texts more solid, then after you finish, invisible the fill layer
5. If you like the work minimal, that's it, but if you want more style in your work, style your fonts! In this quick tutorial I won't show you how to do many styling in texts, that'd be really long since beveling and all kind of stuff is thousands in vary
so I will teach you the easiest style!
Duplicate the layer text, and make the upper layer text colored black
then with the moving tool, move the black text 2 pixel to the left 2 pixel to the bottom
after that make the black text opacity lower, about like thisj
see, we have a pretty neat shadow there!
do to the rest of the layer texts if you want to
6. also if you find your text are too upper or too lower you can move them, click the clip/link icon beside each layer except for the background, then with the move tool move them to the righplace as you wish
7. As for the background, I want something simple and just not too pop out so I want some more shadow and glow back there
but first thing first, create a new transparent layer above the background layer
I want a centered light in the middle of the background, so I select the blend tool and set it like so
and as always, make the blend layer opacity to lower percent
I want a round shadow back there in the corner, so I select the ellipse select tool and create a round shape in the middle, right click on the image, select invert, then with the brush tool I choose black color and fill in the corner on a new transparent layer
then as always lower the opacity
I also do that on the other corner
I also add some glow light effect with brushes everywhere
my full result so far:
or if you want to make your work grunge and vintage looking, add some texture!
look!
what about merge all your text layers and rotate it this way with the rotate tool?
like so
and also you can never be wrong with textures
and if you want more depth you can flatten all the layers of your work and then adjust the contrast of it
neat sin't it?
okay that's so far what I learnt and I have to pour in this quick tutorial about simple typography, next time I will show you how to do some styling in text, but from now, that's all!
If you have any questions and find some glitch about this tutorial our message is always open, and good luck!
also please like/reblog this post if you find this tutorial helpful! :)
I highly recommend you to understand this tutorial first, the rest you can give a chance to this tutorial!
1. First thing, make your gif layers ready, the first gif sized 245 x 245 and the second gif for this tutorial 245 x 113 px. BUT don't color index it, either save it to .gif, just save it to .xcf (both files)
2. Open your template
select the text part an then fill it with the color of the background of the text
I recommend to do this to make your selection easier and nothing will be easier to screw up
3. Now we're ready for both files, since th 245 x 245 gif is shaped to original square, we don't have to do anything to shape it.
the thing is the 245 x 113 gif is that we have to tweak!
4. So open that gif and also the template that we just edit
5. Drag the template layer to the window of the gif we want to edit
6. Then move it to the right place
7. Select the fuzzy select tool and click on the center of the triangle
8. Then select the rectangle select tool, right click on the image, and do just like the image below
9. Invisible the template layer, now we have add alpha channel to every layers so it can be transparent! you can do the alternative thing just like the tutorial that I linked earlier
10. Now hit delete (keyboard) on every layer of the gif and also don't forget to delete the template layer, and then save it as .xcf
11. Now go to another gif, the 245 x 245 one and then file >> open as layers
12. Open the gif layers file you just edit
13. I know, it's on the wrong place! so watch out carefully how to move the triangle layers at once
14. Click that icon of link/clip thing on every triangle layers, that should make your layers linked to one another
15. Select the move tool then move it to the right place
16. Now after that do the thing that we just learnt on this tutorial
Move the last b layers to the last a layers, move the second last b layers to the second last a layers. Simply just drag the layers. You’re done until you moved all of the b layers. and your layers formation is gonna be like A-B-A-B-A-B…
17. After that merge down the triangle layer to the square layer, at the top of each other!
the next step is merging it all down manually. We can make it easier! Go to edit » keyboard shortcuts » search merge down » and then you got the result click on it » and change it to a letter, I’m just gonna type it “Y” so Y is now a shortcut to merge down.
Now go to the upper layer, click Y, and then ↓ on navigation keyboard, do it repeated ly, Y+ ↓
18. Then save your gif! Color image index it!
If there's anything that you don't understand, you can ask! Feedback is highly appreciated, and please like this post if you find this tutorial helpful, thanks!
This is a quite long tutorial how to do this graphic gif thing on GIMP
- What you need on a frame/canvas gif is
→ understand this tutorial will help you a lot if you found this tutorial a bit confusing
→ Animstack script, click here to find out how to get and how to work with that script
→ 2 different scene of 15-20 each scene frame. Frames must be the same amount (depends on your canvas size to not reach 1 MB limit, fyi: the result preview gif cost 503 kb in 15 layers with gradient map, which is not colored)
→ An Idea where to place the layers. In this frame, I'm going to do place them side by side. Let's see!
But let's try it first with one layer (ctrl + alt +o or file >> open as layers)
scale it to fit the canvas. that's the first one wich I'm placing the first frame on the left
I'm going to open the second frame and resize it, then put it on right side,
Then, if the layer like this the lower frame won't show up, so I set the upper layer as Lighten only
Look how this thing gone really weird, and there's a gray side on the left, that's because the lower layer doesn't fit cover the background so I'm going to move the upper layer to the bottom, set the mode on normal, and then switch the current upper layer to lighten only
still weird!
Nah, here's the trick, because we set the layer on lighten only, let's erase some light part that distract the lower layer with dark color brush I use this kind of brush, choose the fine black color: 000000
Now select the upper layer, see the part where it distract the lower layer
and then with the paint brush tool you just set, spread the color
but still the left katniss look distracted too, just do the same as the above step but with the lower layer selected
now they're all should be fine
let's see how those brushing steps effects our layers originally
*That's just my way to do that, you can also use blend tool instead of brush
Now these are real steps!
1. Basic, just do it like you usally make gifs, but take a note that you have to mind and place the layer gifs on canvas just like the one that we practiced.
2. Edit your gif and color them, (cause I'm lazy I'm just gonna use some gradient map)
3. This is where we use the brush method like we try before, create a new transparent layer, and make sure it's the top layer of all layer, and then, brush through like we did before, just like this
4. Now we're working with anismstack this step, or else you don't have animstack, you should duplicate that brush layer until each layer got one on the upper of them.
Basic steps: on that new brush layer, rename it to something and end it with [fg] like : "Layer [fg]"
and then create a new transparent layer, rename it also and end it with [bg] "layer [bg]" place it to the very bottom of the layers
go to filters >> animation >> process animstack tags >> image >> flatten layer groups
5. Save it to xcf (ctrl +s) I recommend you to name it with numbers like Katniss 1.xcf and the other frame will be Katniss 2.xcf
6. And after that, get a long with the other frame, the steps are just the same as above steps. (But this one I use different gradient map which is fg: 252525 and bg: ff4747 to make it more graphic-y. That's why gifs like this looking different!
7. Now we have two gif layers on xcf. Time to make it into one canvas of gif. create a new file and set it to the same size we've been working on
8. Open (ctrl +alt +o ) the bottom layer of gifs which was we know from the practice we had, mine is the right katniss.
9. and then open as layer the next upper layer, which is the right katniss
10. Now I'm gonna set every upper layer (which is the red one of mine) to lighten only in mode
weird!
11. Now it this is the part where you'll glad if you understand this tutorial. "Move the last b layers to the last a layers, move the second last b layers to the second last a layers. Simply just drag the layers. You’re done until you moved all of the b layers. and your layers formation is gonna be like A-B-A-B-A-B…" yes it is just place it like 1-2-1-2-1-2
12. And then merge the upper layer down (right click on layer >> merge down) This also work easier this way "you know the next step is merging it all down manually. We can make it easier! Go to edit » keyboard shortcuts » search merge down » and then you got the result click on it » and change it to a letter, I’m just gonna type it “Y” so Y is now a shortcut to merge down
Now go to the upper layer, click Y, and then ↓ on navigation keyboard, do it repeated ly, Y+ ↓"
13. Now you're done with the gif itself! Here's mine:
15. Add some text or texture!
Please like / reblog if you found this tutorial helpful! :D
M/N: Sorry I've been disappeared, I was sick and all shitty stuffs going on. But now I can make another tutorial! Yeay
So in this tutorial, we will learn everything at once so from the first tutorial will continue through all this tutorial
First border is a single thin white border
1. Make a new white layer
2. On the new layer right click select alpha to selection
3. Go to select >> shrink >> My size is 6 >> ok
4. Still select the white layer >> hit delete on your keyboard
5. Go to select again >> grow >> must be 1 pixel if you want to keep it thin >> ok
6. If you haven't selected Rectangle select tool, select it, and then on the image display right click >> select invert
7. Hit delete on your keyboard
Double white thin border
same step 1-7 like above tutorial
after that you guys can guess it, make another thin border
8. make a new white layer >> right click on the layer >> alpha to selection
9. Go to select >> shrink >> 9 >> ok
10. Hit delete
11. go to select >> grow >> 1 >> ok
12. Right click on the display image >> select invert >> hit delete
double gray border over thick white border
same step like two tutorials above
13. Select Bucket fill tool >> jut fill the gray (#dedede) on those borders (be careful! you can zoom in if you're not sure)
14. make a new white layer above the image layer >> right click on the layer >> alpha to selection
15. Go to select >> shrink >> 10 >> ok
16. Hit delete
Single gray border over thick white border
same step 1-16
17. Just make the top gray border layer invisible
That's just my way to adding borders, you can also play around with the size and colors.

Sorry for the crappy gifs here, it's 1 am in the morning and to lazy to think right
Before:
After:
M/N: Sorry guys for the lack of updating this blog. School stuffs were so beyond distracting to manage this blog. And now new year and holiday break! So I expecting to be able to make some tutorials that been requested.
In this tutorial, you'll need animstack scripts. Here to get that script and how to install it
1. Okay so first open up your coloring, and resize it to fit the canvas of your gif later (by image >> image size) and some cropping. And create a new layer group (by clicking that little folder icon), Place it above all layers of xcf
2. We're going to insert all of the coloring layers to the layer groups, so just place it all in sequence or else will be look different. Start with the nearest layer to the very bottom layer. just drag and then release to the upper line.
3. After you done all the layers, you'll notice the image will be colored in awful way, but if you also drag the image in to the layer groups, it will be look fine again
4. Now you get the point of this tutorial, you just need to duplicate layer groups and then place them in the right place, then just move the gif layers in. I'll show you how if you still confuse!
5. Get your gif layers ready make it on the different window, get it all done with cropping resizing, sharpening and some other coloring stuffs.
6. Open your xcf window again, and then minimize the window. Drag the layer groups to the gif layers window. Now showing your gif layers window, delete the sample image of the coloring.
7. Rename the layer group with an end "[fg]" so mine will be Layer group copy [fg] (in the preview I wrote with capital, don't do it. It won't work somehow for me, sorry :/ )
8. and then go to the very bottom layers, create new transparent layer, name it to everything you want but end it with "[bg]" (again don't write it on capital!)
9. Now go to filters >> animation >> process animstack tags. Wait for the scripts to work and done.
10. Your layers should be really crowded like this
11. Now time to put in all the layers to eachlayer groups! Drag the layer gif to the upper line just like this
12. Do it to all layers!
13. Now go to image >> flatten layer groups. See what'll happen and wait!
14. Now save it! :) enjoy your gif!
Please like this post if you find this tutorial helpful, and also ask if something wrong happened! See you in the next tutorial :)
How to use textures to make your edit a little bit vintage and a bit tweaking texture...
In this tutorial, I will use this texture by Morningsunstext, this texture by notherndawn, and this kind of texture by lostandtaken.com
Just like we did it everyday, open up your image, edit it with some filters (here I'm using gradient map with fg #3a3a3a and bg #ffeaea) and sharpen it. And then copy your texture, paste it.
After you paste it, there will be something like this:
Just click the new blank icon below the layers window (New Layer icon)
First Texture
1. After that, for this texture, set the mode layer to screen
2. Woop, I know, weird.
That's why we have opacity option, set the opacity between 4-7, but I choose 6,00 of opacity
Tadaaa you're done for this kind of texture!
Second Texture
1. After paste your texture, set the mode layer to screen
2. Then set the opacity to 65,00 . If you like it more grainy, then just leave it alone on 100,00
Third Texture
In this tutorial, we will learn how to tweak textures to make them fit for our picture, not too grainy and not too greyish.
Because this texture already in black and white, I won't bother to desaturate it, but for these kind of textures and these that has colors, I will go to colors > desaturate
1. If your texture turn out has more white than black, go to colors >> invert
2. And then for making it more detailing, scale it to be smaller (Layer >> scale layer)
3. For darken them up so your image won't turn out too grainy or too greyish, tweak it with colors >> curves, follow this curves to make it more dark
ofc you can always use brightness and contrast, but I prefer curves, ad if you want sharpen detailing, make a dot line too somewhere in the right top corner
4. And now you know the rest, set the mode layer to screen >> play around with the opacity.
Finish!
Please like this post if you find this tutorial helpful :)
Basically this is so easy, you guys will say "OOOOH" after you follow these steps!
Sorry for a really lack of images for this tutorial, I honestly think that you guys can figure it out easily yourself without images, because this is reallyyyy simple
1) Open up your image, and size it to the width of 160px or 245 px, the height is your choice (I recommend it to be 35-50 px wider than the width)
2) Let's get started with the icon of the image you wanted to be a minimal poster, open as layers your image/copy paste from the web, then resize it (layer >> layer size) and then cut out the background on the pictures. Since mine is mockingjay pin on book cover, I can easily remove the background with magic wand tool.
click on the background area, and then click delete
3)go to colors >> desaturate >> lightness
4) go to colors >> invert
5) now is the part when you have to make sure yourself that the image is dark enough yet still well shaped. go to colors >> brightness contrast >> set it like this:
but if you want your image has a little bit realistic shadows, then don't darken them like that, probably less from that.
6) this is the time when you have to choose between coloring your minimalist poster, or fill it with texture, I will continue to the coloring minimalist poster first, and then the other one with texture, click to jump to the texturized minimalist poster tutorial
7) still select the image, go to colors >> colorize and choose the color you fancy the most for it, I select blue
8) also do the same on the background layer, colors >> colorize (but make it your contrast to your image!)
9) if you want some shadowy effect, duplicate the image, and then go to colors >> brightness and contrast and make sure it's a little bit brighter than the original image. click okay, and then select the moving tool, click it on the layer, use your navigation keyboard to move it 1px to the right and 1 px to the bottom
10) make a new transparent layer and then place it above the background layer, select the blend/gradient tool, choose white color as the foreground color, set it to FG to transparent and the shape to radial. then start the blend from the center to the right. set the opacity a little bit fader
Now for the texturized minimalist poster!
7) copy-paste/open as layers a texture, I recommend it to be a a really patterned and colorful texture, and place it above other layers. I use this pack
8) Resize your texture to fit in the image, and edit the colors if necessary
9) set it to lighten only.
10) now copy-paste another texture, I recommend it to be a texture that doesn't look crowded, I use this pack and then place it above the white background layer.
11) If you want to make a shadowy effect thingy too, just copy the image (for me the mockingjay pin image), right click on the pattern layer >> merge down. select the duplicated layer, move it with 3px to the right and 3px to the bottom, and set the opacity.
10) If you want to add texts, then do it, customize your text and you're done! (ctrl+e and save it as a png for better quality)
Like this post if you find this tutorial helpful, and support by a follow, thank you!
