Gold Coast Plays Professional Theatre Company of Thousand Oaks Presents Gift Rap: A Holiday Musical--Dec. 18th--20th
Gift Rap: A Holiday Musical A play in the key of giving
The musical for family audiences teaches us that a gift can be something you have, something you know or something you are.
Thousand Oaks, California – Gold Coast Plays, a professional theatre company that presented several critically-acclaimed productions at the Civic Arts Plaza, will present the one-act musical GIFT RAP, for young audiences, December 18 – 20, 2015 at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks. Performances are Friday at 7:30 and Saturday and Sunday at 1:00. GIFT RAP is written by playwright Richard Hellesen, who has won numerous awards for his plays that are produced by professional companies around the country. Music and Lyrics are by Grammy award-winning composer Michael Silversher, also nominated for numerous Emmy’s for Winnie-the-Pooh, The Muppets and other Disney productions.
Gift Rap Vera and Vera Two
This critically-acclaimed musical originated at South Coast Repertory and toured Southern California schools, and features six professional adult actors, playing eleven roles. Gold Coast Plays’ Founding Artistic Director, Stephanie Wilson, will direct. “There are no references to Christmas or Hanukah, but since this play is about giving it’s perfect for this time of year,” says Wilson. The action begins when three children are told they will receive the Perfect Gift at the New Super Mall. Each has a different idea of what form that gift might take. For “Vera” played by Carly Lucas, it is the latest fashion doll. For bookworm, “Chuck”, played by Billy Parish, it is a wonderful adventure, and for loner “Dave”, played by Sonny James Colvano, it is something – anything – that would give his life a meaning or a value that it never quite seems to have. We are guided through this adventure by three mysterious “Gift Rappers” played by Kim Dalton, Katie Moya and Johnny Ortiz. All the actors play several roles in this one-act musical fantasy.
