let’s think about Sara carrying Sam to term, alone in a strange city, with maybe a few relatives in Prague’s Jewish Quarter but otherwise completely alone. and as her due date gets closer she’s only getting more and more scared. imagine loving this unborn child so much bc it’s the only remnant of your love you have to hold onto, but also resenting it because it’s why you were sent away from everything you’ve ever known, and *hating* yourself for that.
and then she gives birth to this baby boy and, oh. there you are, Samuel. I’ve known you forever but now I get to meet you.
and whatever fear or disillusionment or bitterness melts away because loving this child is the only thing that matters now.
