Got a long comment of the Hoyo gameplay and it’s fandom So I thought I’d break it up into different posts because it was multiple stuff.
First and foremost, I never said I blame anyone for having expectations or assumptions. Those are valid; I was speaking more on people’s mindset after gaining the facts.
Also if we are really gonna split hairs here, your reasoning for assuming Dehya only looking like a DPS falls apart when the we are told in the same scene about her being a mercenary that she’s been doing nothing but long term bodyguard work in the city for awhile.
Back to my point, when we learned she was tank, it was weird how many people kept going, “wow she’s a terrible DPS that isn’t that strong.” Yeah, because they didn’t make her a damage dealer! It was a big criticism against Dehya despite that not being the appropriate criteria to judge her in. That’s why I said the fandom for a long time had this bad a narrow view power and what how much of it a character has. The main judgement should not have been on her damage output, but her ability to tank!
Most engagement from CCs and the community rarely engaged with her in the way she was meant to be; instead the world was still stuck on vape or melt being the only damage that mattered aside from this new hyperbloom mechanic.
I will say that while tanks or generally not that useful in this game, there was still merit and utility in this design. The real issue more people should have judged is the timer on how much poise she provided and the cool down not being great without C1 or sac greatsword. That’s the real flaw, and so was the burst ending by getting frozen. That’s the real problem that shouldn’t have existed in her design as a character made to tank.
Notice how I didn’t include jumping during the burst? Because that’s not a bug and it never was. People raked her over the coals for this but I’ve only ever seen one video mention the reason her burst stops after the jump is because when you hit attack right after the jump, Dehya skips to the end part of her burst where she kicks down and puts the field back on the floor. It’s not a bug, just tech nobody bothered to use or attempt in most cases.
Dehya’s main criticism has always stemmed from a place that just wasn’t fair due to how the community accessed power, which is a running trend. Kuki was slandered like nobody’s business until 3.0 hit and people realized that maybe characters made at the end of a nation are made in mind with what’s coming up. Kazuha was called a sucrose side grade. At that moment, everyone should’ve learned not to blindly listen to beta testers and wait a little bit before accurate judgement. But people never learn.
Emilie was an off field dps that came out right before the nation of pyro that relied on the burning reaction. Her artifact set looked like Kinich, and what did people say? “It’s so random for them to make a character that wants burning when they’ve done anything with it. And before a new nation!? I’m gonna skip and get a cool character, like Kinich.” And then i watched a subreddit beg for her return to complete their kinich team.
I get it’s not the safest thing to put faith in future investment, but sometimes the answer is so immediate. Especially when they do the same formula! They made Ineffa, drip marketed Flins, and maybe 20% of people learned their lesson from Kinich. 😅
