As the first rays of sunlight peek through the windows, you stir from your sleep. Today, too, should begin with another lazy start, another series of sleepy routines, another sigh that it’s yet another workday—but something feels different. An unfamiliar weight on your finger. You feel it tug. Once, twice, soft yet persistent. You groggily open your eyes and find that, wrapped around your pinky, is a red string.

Just as your confusion grows, you discover a small note in your palm:

Alone on a day like this? Don't tell me you've forgotten the occasion~ How sad for you! Luckily, Miss Sparkle's got you covered. That red string tied to your pinkie? It links you up with some other lonely soul in the cosmos, forever! Or until you undo the knot, at least. No, simply pulling at it won't do anything—aside from amputate a finger, at least. ( note: miss sparkle is not responsible for any bodily harm that the constituent may experience ) It's designed specifically not to come off by any normal means… of course, I would never make you go through something as boring as that. If you want to pull it apart, I need you to do something really special with the person you're connected with… MAKE LOVE GREAT AGAIN! How exactly will you do that? Convince me of your romance! Devote yourselves completely to love, and the string might just undo itself from joy. And I mean completely, by the way. The string is designed specifically not to recognize mediocrity. So fake it til you and your partner make it—or actually feel your affections blossom within you! What happens if you don't do that? Well… I hope you enjoy being linked with someone for the rest of your life. ( hey, that actually doesn't sound too bad! ) Now, get going. That string's gonna start feeling tight. And, hey—let it never be said that Miss Sparkle left you behind.

You feel another sharp tug on the string. Looks like your partner's woken up as well.

By popular demand (the demand coming from me, myself, and I, Milky), I come in peace with a VALENTINE’S DAY EVENT!

Please use this form to register your muses for the event. Registration is open until February 12, 2025, at 11:59PM EST.

Prompts for you and your partner to choose from shall be posted on February 13, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST, with the event ending on February 21, 2025 at 11:59PM EST. You only need to do one prompt for the strings to undo, but feel free to do more or mix and match them if you want to!

Like a scene from a movie fading to black, the "String of Fate" wrapped around your pinky vanishes just as quietly as it had appeared, dissolving into the stars the moment the clock strikes midnight. There's no grand fanfare, dramatic unravelling, or fireworks to fill the night sky to celebrate the end of your suffering (or, to some, newly found flame) Only... a silent fade into nothingness, as if it was never there. Perhaps you never even noticed it left your finger at all, too preoccupied, too busy. Now that you've noticed it's gone, however, you can only stare at your freed hand, a quiet question lingering in the air... Did following the Fool’s note even matter, in the end? Or were you simply made a spectacle for her own amusement?

And so marks the end of Sparkle's Scarlet Strings!

Thank you, everyone, for participating in this silly little Valentine's Event and I sincerely hope you enjoyed it as much as I've enjoyed reading your threads! While the event may have ended, please feel free to continue the threads you have anyway if you so wish! I'd love to see how your silly chaotic stories conclude.

You pull and pull, yet try as you might there doesn’t seem to be any signs of wear on the string at all. It remains stubbornly intact as if made of something magical–something unbelievably strong and ridiculously indestructible. Frustration grows, but then you remember the words scrawled on the note: to undo the spell, you need only do one thingー Make Love Great Again!

And thus begins Sparkle's Scarlet Strings!

Below is the list of prompts you and your partner may choose from. Remember, you only need to fulfill one prompt for the strings to undo themselvesーhowever, you are always free to do more or mix and match as you wish!

APPLE OF MY EYE - The red string pulls you toward a person you least expect, and now you have to pretend to be romantically interested in them for the day! Or worst, decade! Worry not, though. You need only convince FIVE people that the two of you are truly head over heels for each other, and the string’s spell should come off! Surely a bit of PDA here and there won’t kill you?

LOVE IS BLIND! - The two of you are trapped in a course full of red hearts, roses, stuffed toys and other cheesy romantic things. Try as you might to leave; you only find yourselves back in the middle! The only way out? One of you must wear a blindfold, and the other has to use their words to guide you out of the course with them!

THROUGH THE STOMACH - Following the string has led the two of you into a kitchen, and suddenly, you’re tasked with cooking a romantic meal for each other with no rules but one! You must include chocolate in everything. After all, Valentine’s is all about chocolates, is it not? Careful though, your meal HAS to be good or else you get zapped!

GLUE STICKS AND HEARTSTRINGS - Your red string forces you both into a DIY craft project—building a Valentine’s Day gift for one another! Ooh! Romantic! Expect glitter, glue, and the most heartfelt creations! And hey, no half-assing it!

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT (or not?) - You and your partner are (or are pretending to be) strangers who have just met on Valentine’s Day. You must try to convince each other that your love for them is real! Be it through a date, a movie night, a picnic, or what have you! Go on then, swoon them. Pull out a serenade or two! Give them a bouquet of chilis! Write them a poem!

SHORT END OF THE STRING - Oh, oops. We’ve run out of strings, clumsy, clumsy! Your string of fate appears to be shorter than the rest, and each time you try to pull away it only grows shorter! Oh me, oh my! It looks like the only way to solve this is for you to hold hands for the rest of the day! 

HEART TO HEART - We get it! You’re the villain. You’re mean and everyone hates you or you want everyone to, but listen! It’s the day of love! And right now you can’t help but feel like opening up, even if just a little. So why don’t you sit down with your partner? Have a little heart-to-heart! Maybe once you’ve learned how to be honest with someone you’ll be less of a meanie! 

PERFECT VALENTINE’S - What is a perfect Valentine’s? Nobody knows! Thankfully, though, we’ve got YOU to help us figure that out! But what’s this, what’s this? You try to set up the perfect picnic and suddenly it rains! You try to book for a fancy dinner but oops, all tables have been reserved! As if misfortune's stalking you, nothing seems to be working out! How are you two going to make Valentine’s perfect now? :( Best start thinking, or else there’s no cutting that string!

P.S. I LOVE YOU - The red string has led you to a quaint little post office, where you and your partner are tasked with writing heartfelt letters to each other. But here’s the twist: you must write the letters as if you’re saying goodbye forever, pouring alllllll your unspoken feelings onto the page! The catch? Once the letters are sealed and sent, you’ll have to read them aloud to each other in front of a crowd of romantic onlookers! Will your words be sincere enough to melt hearts, or will the pressure make you stumble over your words? Remember, the red string won’t loosen until your words truly swoon the audience!

2 TRUTHS 1 LIE - What better way is there to strengthen each other’s bond than to learn more about each other?! Weeeelllllcome to today’s latest Valentine’s Day game show! Brought to you by Penacony’s finest cupids! As today’s guest, you and your partner must play a game of 2 Truths and 1 Lie! The catch? Heh. You have to guess which one is the lie correctly three times in a row, or start alllll over again!

IMPERIAL NUISANCE - Congratulations! The red string has decided the only way to break its spell is for you to annoy each other relentlessly all day! Whether it’s by stealing their last Sweet Madame, “accidentally” forgetting to heal them during a fight, or even hitting them when “you didn’t mean to”, you must find creative ways to get under each other’s skin! Just remember, our theme is still Valentine’s and love and romance and what have you! So try to see if you can make each other laugh through the annoyance while you’re at it!
