If you might ask me why I like "Monster High" despite its monsters mostly being pretty teenagers with funny skin tones, I would say that it's good to add at least some grotesqueness to girls' toys, however small, that the outfits are nice, and that I fucking love Ghoulia Yelps.

I don't care for zombies, but she's established as a bona fide geek, with an extra outfit that lets her dress up as a comic book nerd, for a comic book created for that universe. Oh, and a few years ago SDCC had a cosplaying Ghouila as an exclusive.
