Isaac: Well... I—I was really intending to spy on you—r camp, using a musket looking glass that I had invented. Some people are calling it the “Eyesaac”— Nigel: Like your name? I: —But with— N: E-Y-E at the beginning? I: Yes. How did you know? N: Well, what else would it be? Simply brilliant. I love it. I mean... for an instrument of my demise.

My laptop just?? Played a snippet of a completely different song in the middle of another?
Discussing hjiras with my father, and the topic of demons came up. “It’s so weird. They rub a kid’s head and they claim they excise evil demons.”
“Well,” I said, “that’s not really different from a Catholic priest exorcising someone, right? It’s the same belief in both cases, it’s just in different cultural contexts.”
“Oh, no,” he said, “but that’s actually some real shit.”
I should’ve backed down! The polite, rational thing to do would have been to go “oh! :) interesting! :)” and change the topic. Instead: I asked “oh, what do you mean by that?”, and I got exactly what I should have anticipated.
Which was a three minute lecture on supernatural events, why ghosts are a thing, and how I should look up the irl case behind The Exorcist movie, because some people fuck with Satan, and Baptists don’t, but Catholics? They’re always up to shit. Google it and then talk to him about it, I’ll be shocked!
I am mostly just shocked that I keep managing to forget my relatives are all two steps from fundies.
