“Nightmare Girl” is the name given to a rare “glitch” in the dating sim application Dream Girl for Android and iOS. Only a handful of instances of this phenomenon have been documented and reports vary greatly, with some only experiencing temporary glitching and others claiming that they had to re-download the game entirely, and that even after successful installation they continued to hear strange laughter in between bars of the game’s cheery main menu theme music.
The only consistency seems to be that all who experienced this glitch report seeing the game’s mascot, “Doremi-chan”, replaced by an unfamiliar avatar, whom its community of fans have come to call “Akumu” or sometimes “Aki-chan". One of the most pervasive rumors surrounding the nightmare girl glitch is that Aki-chan is a demon who can be summoned into the real world by opening the game under certain precise circumstances. If summoned correctly, it’s said she will grant the player a wish. But if the summoning attempt is incorrect or left uncompleted, she will take the player’s life instead.
The game’s developers have yet to come forward with a statement about this peculiar phenomenon, leaving players to only speculate.
