The pairing that this person was defending was not only shallow and hamfisted, but most likely deliberately so. It was a deconstruction; the creators of the work made it clear that it was never actually meant to last.
And not only is the male character tall, pale, and melancholic (read: immediate fandom favorite); and not only was the female character (read: protagonist) the one to move on (at which point, the batshippers concludedâdespite lack of any real evidence to support thisâthat she had thus irreparably broken their faveâs heart)? She also ended up with the batshippersâ designated acceptable target, which must have seemed like stacking insult atop injury to them.
(Itâs probably not difficult to guess the fandom. Or, for that matter, which crew is wanking.)
