Casper "Ghost" Sinclair --- 21 --- Teleportation
Casperās life is not one for fairytale books. It is not something you wish upon or hope for. It is one of tragedy, sadness, disdain, and begrudging acceptance as he navigated his way through the world on the right side of wrong.
Growing up wasnāt easy. Being only 6 when his parents died, he doesnāt remember much from his life before the foster system. Distorted lies could easily become memories, as he soon learned, so he quickly embraced the truth of it all: life before didnāt matter. Who cared if his mother smelt of lilacs or honeysuckle or moonlight. Who cared if his fatherās laugh warmed the coldest of hearts. Who cared if him and his siblings loved each other fiercely. Casperās parents were dead, and his brother and sister were separated from him before he could even beg for mercy. Life after the system is all he truly knows. And he knows it well.
House after house (he refused to call them Homes), move after move, Casper acknowledged the fact that he would never truly find a permanent place to stay...or a family. Too many people were in it for the wrong reasons. Whether it be the government checks or for own personal and inappropriate āgainsā, the true monsters he stayed with infected him with a dark hatred for government systems. Though he refused to break and counted down the days until he was 18, late nights and moments of silence caused his brain to wonder how his siblings were enduring it all. If they were still alive that is.
Itās enough to say the system was entirely fucked up that fosterās sometimes were abused to the point of death. But people like Casper were also on an entirely different hit-list. Mutants. Casper knew about his abilities since he was a child. Though he canāt remember anything about his parents, he knows his siblings were just like him, with vast affinities for mental abilities. Casperās was more physical. Teleportation, or ājumpingā as he liked to call it, was his affinity. Sort of ironic with his literal ability of jumping from house to house. Nothing was ever steady in his life. It was through such transparency, that at the age of 15 he officially started going by āGhostā, and he began taking control of his life.
His ability to get in and out of places became his greatest gift. It started off as petty theft, a quick grab here and there, and soon pickpocketing became his thing. So when he heard of Camp Somewhere through the grapevine, the idea of truly honing his abilities was too tempting to resist. Only being 16, he technically needed an adultās permission to go, but he never truly trusted any of his foster parentās with his identity as a mutant. So for that summer, he ran away. For once in his life, he was free. Free of caseworkers, free of probation officers, free of constraints. His first summer there was the best summer of his life. He learned that his abilities could be used with far greater intent than he imagined. Yet as the summer came to an end, he became conflicted as to what was his next step. Until he realized he didnāt have to step: he could jump.
Life after that became a whirlwind. Dropping out of high school probably wasnāt the wisest decision, but Ghost has never been that wise since the street is where he thrived. He was a nomad in America, jumping from place to place. Taking what he wanted and not giving a damn about the consequences. And anytime the authorities started to catch up to him, he disappeared right under their noses. For 9 months out of the year Ghost marches to the beat of his own drum. Yet when June rolls around, he returns to camp. Though heās no longer a camper who learns, he still enjoys the 3 months of peace. Of not having to run or constantly look over his shoulder. For once heās at a place where he belongs, with people who love him. For once... heās home.
Ghost is an enigma. Though generally nice and warm and caring, itās quite hard to get past his goofy and blunt exterior. Underneath the too perfect smile and joking behavior, and beneath his slight arrogance and vapid behavior, is someone whoās angry and afraid and pissed at the world for giving him the hand that he was dealt. Ghost has always felt as if the deck was stacked against him. Anything he couldāve possibly lost in his life, he has. Well, all that was important to him. But heās a strong believer in not carrying around that weight. The sad thing is, that he can never truly forget his past the way he pretends he has. The mystery behind his parentās death, where his family is, and what his true purpose is in the world haunts him. He often feels a duty to give back since he never did truly have anyone there for him as a child, but his own greed stops him at times. Itās one of the reasons why he didnāt just stay at the school for the gifted all year around. The training seemed to be focused on becoming something more and he never felt adequate enough for it. So he gives back when he can. Stealing, coning people, and offering safe-havens for runaways who need the same escape he did. His lifestyle and doing grand heists is his biggest āfuck youā to the government and his past is probably why heās more of a radical Transitionist than an Egalitarian. Returning to Camp Somewhere every year aids with his guilty conscious, and being around people like him helps him with his growing lonesome. On the outside Ghost is as happy (and slightly challenged) as any one person can be, but on the inside heās craving...more. He just has no idea what that is yet.
