Ghost!Jay AU
[Apologies for typos, I doubt I caught them all. Warnings for angst, murder, you know, basically the entire plot of TGG: Angst and murder? Enjoy!]
After the murder of Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, his lover, is left utterly devistated. Nick remains in his cottage beside the mansion of his passed boyfriend until the law comes to his door, telling him that Mr. Gatsby left every penny he had to Nick--even his mansion.
So Nick moves into the mansion, still as heartbroken and devastated as he was the day Jay died. The first night he's there, he walks to Jay's bedroom where he remembers spending so many of his summer nights, and he quietly removes his suit, then lays in Jay's bed. He cries quite a bit.
He spends most of his days wishing Jay were here with him, checking out all of the gadgets Jay has all over his mansion. Juicers, toasters, all kinds of neat inventions. He loves to sit by the window and listen to the gramophone, listening to lots of music he and Jay used to dance to. It's how he copes, and how he lives, reflecting on the pasts good times.
Starting a month after Jay's passing, he still throws parties every weekend, knowing how much Jay enjoyed seeing the happy faces of all the partygoers, he knows it's what Jay would have wanted.
[after Jay realized he loved Nick, he still kept throwing the parties to give people something to look forward to on the weekends--and he enjoyed the parties twice as much when Nick would come over, they could dance, chat, and forget about their troubles together]
One night, a little over three weeks after he's begun living in the mansion, shortly before he starts hosting the parties, is when Nick starts noticing odd things in the mansion. At first, it's little things. Things like coasters shifting, appliances working on their own, glasses being misplaced, the record player has a tendency to play on its own. Nick will find Jay's sunglasses on the table, along with the keys to his Rolls Royce. Nick never thought anything of it, partly because he didn't want to. Most of what happened made him think too much about the past, so he pushed it from his mind.
One night, he's enjoying one of the quiet, warmer Autumn nights, sitting by the window in Jay's old study, writing a book as he listens to the gramophone again, listening to one of his and Jay's favorite dancing songs. He hears something shift, and looks to the bookshelf behind him.
The wheeled ladder along the shelves moves some. A book falls off the top shelf. The pages actually cut.
Dennison's Bogie Book for Halloween, the 1920 edition. A book Jay looked to for his Halloween themed parties, Nick recalled him saying.
Nick puts the book on the desk, and stares at it for a while. Halloween was two months away, and Jay always started planning for his masquerade Halloween parties around this time. This clearly wasn't a coincidence, Nick knew that. This is when Nick starts to wonder if the odd happenings in and around the mansion have been Jay trying to make contact.
Well, one day almost three weeks after that, Nick has had a particularly bad day. It was raining outside, rather gloomy, he hadn't slept on account of the nightmares he'd had. Weird nightmares, most of which contained twisted images and recollections of Jays death. Nick decided he wouldn't go back to sleep around two a.m. He spends the entire day cleaning the mansion and making phone calls (for Jays "business" that he's picked up) and has to deal with several people asking painful questions about the murder, giving their typical condolences that Nick knew were fake--Nick knew they couldn't care less.
Long about 9 p.m. Nick gets another phone call as he is trying to write some on his novel--a call he assumed was business. He picks up, and it's Daisy. Daisy, calling about Jay. Calling about Jay almost two months late. Oh, and Nick let's her have it. He gives her the run-around, telling her that Jay was nothing but good to her, and she didn't have the decency to show to the funeral, to call, to send a flower on her behalf. Before she can speak, he corrects himself. "No," he says. "I'm glad you didn't bother showing up. He knew your voice was full of money, and you only would have showed up to make yourself look good, to hopefully receive a pat on the shoulder filled with nothing but fake sympathy." And as Daisy tries to defend herself, he hangs up after saying "Don't call back."
Nick throws his pen and slams down the phone, sobbing.
In his fit of sobbing, he feels cold hands on his shoulders, and goes still. He turns and sees Jay, standing in his pink suit, rather transparent to the naked eye, his hands now by his sides, a smile on his face.
"I was wondering when you would start to see me, old sport."
Nick jumps up and tries to hug him, slips, and falls right through Jay, hitting the ground. Upon realizing he is a ghost, they share a laugh--and Nicks life really takes a turn for the better here.
He and Jay spend all their time together, Jay follows Nick around the parties (and everyone wonders why Nick constantly talks to himself, as Nick is the only one that can see Jay), they find a way to dance with eachother, the more energy Jay gets, the more he's able to be physically touched. This means they can dance with one another, share hugs and kisses, cuddle in bed, take walks holding hands, the like. Nick reads Jay his novel he's writing, and Jay gives Nick tips on how to do bootlegging business.
Jay even helps Nick plan the Halloween party, and Jay figures he'll fit right in. Afterall, he's a ghost. Ghosts are spooky, right?

ghost jay au. but with explanation
I did this yesterday to calm down from tumblr not working. This would make more sense if i was able to explain the au better yesterday but i couldn't so today i will.
Basically when jay dies his and skullys mental states combine to create a husked form that knows what happened. But they also are dead so it wouldn't get them far. They end up getting sent back in time back when alex was starting the the production of marble hornets but as a ghost and tries to stop everyone from dying.
Past jay is still alive but has no clue on why he keeps waking up with papers scattered around his room and why he has been getting ill lately. The others pick up on it and ask him about it and he comes clean saying about all the stuff that has been happening.
They bring him to one of those ghost people who i don't know the name of and they tell him about how they can sense some sort of presence on him. This prompts alex to bring an Ouija board to see if they can talk to it. They learn its name is jay, that they are in some sort of danger, and in order for more help jay need to prick his finger and put the blood in the middle of a pentagram(idk yet that part was on the fly cus i liked the idea).
Idk why yet but this promotes a ritual like thing where they do the poked finger thing and they meet skully who just looks like jay but sadder, no eyes and bleeding(and glitching out). From then on its skully trying to warn them whats happening but in a cryptic like sense. He is able to time out some thing and full on stop others but some parts happen anyway even when he tries to stop and warn them. They also learn things ahead of time like that tims old hospital burned down and how Tim has the sickness.
I want to work more on making this a better idea so if you guys have any suggestions then that would be helpful.
When ghost jay uses a lot his ghost powers™️ his arms and legs turn into this ectoplasm like goop. Like when he is summoned or startes moving alot of things around. I think it looks cool (i wasnt gonna make this cannon to the au but then i saw the art someone did based off it and was like "that looks cool" and decided that if he uses alot of energy then it will happen)

ghost jay au
this is my 7th try (im on the computer now) im trying one more time if this dosen’t work.
short story is that when jay dies he gets sent back in time to the time they started filming marble hornets but with the mind set of both skully and jay combined at once. they basically stalk past jay and the marble hornets crew while trying to warn and prevent the events from happening again but in a cryptic way( since its skully).
this was intensely based off of “ i already had my adventure. i dont need something new”
i would put the link here but i don't have it on my computer so if this works then ill edit it but for now im not gonna.
R you tired of hearing me talk about this? Well to bad, i want to explain what type of ghosty power he has
