beth really sat in her marital bed and said, "tis merely a flesh wound" while annie and ruby looked at her like she lost her damn mind because they don't knoooooooow. they think her and rio banged it out a few times and then made a breathy asmr audio track for the secret service. wham bam thank you ma'am.
they don't know that she walked into that bathroom that first night because her husband was droning on and on about all the ways he doesn't see her at all and rio had just told her that he thinks she could be somebody.
they don't know that rio stood in front of beth with a harsh set to his mouth and told her, "you're a drug dealer" while she cried, but still left an envelope with her name on it, revealing a little bit too much about where his priorities lie when it comes to her.
they don't know about the way he sat on her picnic table and laughed about the baby hitmen, the way he offered to take care of it for her, no strings attached.
they don't know that the two of them stood in the soft afternoon glow of her bedroom while rio smiled at her mismatched socks and that she had laughed nervously in the kitchen when she realized she didn't really have any food to offer him.
they don't know about the tired set of his shoulders and the way he hung his head when she told him she lost the baby and they certainly don't know about the way he had trouble looking at her on that bench after lucy's murder.
they don't know about all the ways that rio's said i see you to beth, despite all the ways they've tried to screw each other over. they just hear beth saying, "what if it wasn't luck?" and they think she's lost her damn mind. but they don't know!
beth just needed that one final gesture to prove that it's real, it's always been real AND NOW THEY'RE CRIME MARRIED FOREVER, NO TAKE-BACKSIES!
i mean, if rio was the one behind it and he really wanted her gone, he would've just emptied the clip, right?
