If I want to study in Oxford...
...I have to start applying for scholarships.
So today, with some downtime at work, I began researching the Fulbright Scholarship program. Though I have a few options in regards to scholarships, the Fulbright Scholarship for US scholars offers a type of package deal.
Its almost like one-stop shopping as compared to mixing and matching a variety of scholarships. (Though, it is possible that I could get partial funding from Fulbright and would still have to apply for other scholarships.)
Either way, its incredibly competitive. So I've got to start working on it now.
The Application Process, as seen below, was copied from the us.fulbrightonline.org webpage:
Application procedure for candidates applying through U.S. institutions
The Fulbright Program Adviser (FPA) will set a campus application deadline for the institution’s students, which is typically 4-6 weeks earlier than the final October deadline. Please confirm the campus deadline with the FPA.
All candidates applying through a U.S. institution must submit the Fulbright application through the Embark online application system by the campus deadline; all supporting materials as outlined in the Application Components section, must also be included by the campus deadline date.
Once your application has been submitted for institutional review, the Fulbright Program Adviser will schedule a campus interview for you.
Following the interview and before the final deadline in October, you will have the opportunity to revise your application based on feedback provided by the Fulbright Program Adviser and the campus interview committee.
You must work with the Fulbright Program Adviser to ensure that your application is officially submitted and that all supporting documents are attached by the final deadline: October 17, 2012 (5:00 p.m., Eastern Time).
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to information the website has available. The link contained in that information, regarding Application Components, not only takes you to a list of what you need to apply, but it also features links to detailed descriptions and tips of each component as well as an interactive checklist. That page also allows you to type in your Institution and find your FPA. I found mine and have already sent him, as well as the director of study abroad, an email. I want to set up these meetings and see what I need to do to get this ball rolling.
The University of Oxford will not accept an applicant without proof of funding; I want to give them proof. I want them to take me seriously as an applicant because I am interested in pursuing this option.
