I. THE MBTI-SORTED VIDEO CHALLENGE

What I need from you:

Record a 10-min. video; don’t worry if it’s not exact, but try to be within a minute or two. Answer as many or as few questions from the list below (Section B)  as you’d like, plus the four at the bottom (Section  C).  Don’t over-edit the video!  I really want all your weird long pauses, and your rambling.  If you make a 20-min. video and need to cut out some questions to make it back to 10, that is acceptable.  

Upload your video to a platform like YouTube, or Google Drive, and send me the direct link using this Google Form. Either a public or unlisted video is fine, whatever you’re comfortable with doing - just make sure it’s not set to private so I can still watch it.  If you want to make it easier to find, you can tag your video under #GetSorted.  

Make sure you are well lit from the front, not the back so I can see your face.  Sit far enough away from the screen that I can see some of your body language. 

If you’d like, you can use an interviewer or camera operator, so you are  interacting with another person. Make sure to face the camera wherever  possible, though.  If they want to answer questions, too, they must  submit their own video (this is an interview, not a conversation!).  

You must be 18 years of age or older to participate.  

Please submit your videos by July 23rd, 2021. Results will go live by July 30th.

What You Get: I will try and type you! I might not be able to, but I can probably narrow it down.  

II. Video Content

A. INTRODUCE YOURSELF: What is your (first/screen) name? MBTI results will  be shared via a post on mbti_sorted, so please make sure you only share  information that you are comfortable with being used publicly on Tumblr.  You can also introduce your interviewer or camera person.

B. PICK SOME QUESTIONS TO ANSWER (for approx. 9-minutes 30 seconds):

 What was your favourite subject in school and did you pursue it as a career?

Have you ever tried your hand at matchmaking and how did it go?

Are you a good cook or a baker?  Do you prefer one to the other? What food do you enjoy making and why?

What languages do you speak?  If you are not a native English speaker, answer a question in your first language (and then summarize it after in English).

What is one thing you find weirdly fascinating?

Which is the better pet: cats or dogs?

Tell us about a recurring conflict with a family member.  

Do you believe in any supernatural phenomena?  

Do you collect or gather people?  (ie. do you like to host or organize social gatherings and outings (even if just for two people at a time), and do you regularly invite new people along?  Do you actively cultivate friendships with people you find interesting?)

What character do you identify with the most and why?    

Do you have a good sense of direction?  Describe how you go about navigating (when you can’t rely on GPS).

Do you have a good sense of time?  Is your sense of time better or worse than your sense of direction?

Can you describe a memorable dream?

Are you a heartbreaker or a heartbreak-ee?

The Temple Grandin inspired question: if I tell you to think of a clock tower, what’s happening in your head?

Tell us about a teacher or a coach who left a big impression on you.

What is your dream car?  Or if you aren’t into cars, what piece of technology do you dream of owning?

Tell us about the last piece of media you felt really engaged with.   (Music, art, dance, writing, video, presentation, game, etc.)  Was it a typical representation of what you usually enjoy?

Are you passionate about your career? If yes, tell us about it. If not, do you wish you had done something different?

C. ANSWER THESE FOUR QUESTIONS (30 seconds):

Tell me which is your dominant hand and foot i.e. are you right-handed and right-footed?  Are there any fine-motor control activities that are easier with your non-dominant side? (Like if you write and throw with your right hand, but catch with the left hand.)

How much preparation did you do before making this video?  If you have an interviewer, did you pick the questions or did they?  Who decided to do it that way?  

What type do you think you are?  

Christien: Very weird to watch!  You are like me-through-the-looking-glass, where all our answers start or end in the same place but go somewhere completely different in the middle.  Really highlights what a slight change in function stack will do.  I kept thinking of Jason Ralph, but I’m not sure if it’s just the hair...??

awkwardisoverrated: Mostly found myself thinking that you were extremely personable.  Also, your favourite things about your job are talking to people and finding number-related drama!  Always great to find more math-loving SFPs.

Anna: You have some ISFJ-ish mannerisms, but you are definitely an ESTP.  A little bit Julia Stiles-ish, perhaps?  You are continuing on the tradition of ESTs knowing exactly which cars they want!

carto_writer: I am pretty sure about ENTJ, but I can’t think of clear enough examples to prove it to myself.  Enjoyed listening to you talk about books, and am curious about your organizing - are you a subject -> author, with all books upright?

Very short this time!  Here it is:

i) Five participants this time, 3 men, 2 women - all EPs, except for one EJ.

ii) All particpants were typed by the end of the video, but I double-checked with @infj-zen to make sure we came to the same conclusions.  (We did.)

iii) What made me unsure about types? I was pretty sure this time around - and participants were more sure, too, with both ENFPs testing as ENFPs, and an ESTP who’d figured out all her functions (I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned anywhere before, but I get the feeling Ti people, particularly TPs, are much better at recognizing their own functions).  Again, lack of specific examples is to blame for any uncertainty.

iv) Were the questions effective? They weren’t ineffective, I guess, but because of the smaller number of participants, it’s hard to tell where I could have done better.  I do feel like I got fewer targeted answers this time around?  I think I will keep the same questions in the same order for the next time around, so I’ll save discussing any changes I made until then.  I think most of the questions I changed and the reasons I changed them were covered in the last round-up, anyway.

v) Are there any patterns by type as far as content goes? Nothing new, except for ENFPs (possibly?) preferring cats to dogs.

vi) Are there any patterns that were not content-oriented? Not enough people to make a comparison.

vii) Would I revise the challenge in any way?  I think I will stick to running the challenge once a year in the future - February 2022, mark it in your calendars!  I’m also not really sold on not replying until the end... I think it’s easier on me, but it also makes it less engaging overall.  Hard to tell.

viii) Anything happen I wasn’t expecting?  Just technical/security issues.  Google Drive, as it turns out, is not the most anonymous of video-hosting platforms, (your name shows up in owner info).  Luckily, everyone whose video was shared last time posted to youtube, so the only person who has more information than they should is me, and I can’t begin to stress how uninterested I am in stalking anyone on the internet.

Anonymous asked:has your recent getsorted led you to any reevaluations of your previous getsorted? or any other typings?

After the challenge ended, I found Lucy Dahl, who reminded me of Anne, and Hee Seo, who reminded me of Claire.  So new typings, yes, but retypings... I guess Jonathan Safran Foer from ENTP to INTP for SM291111.  I haven’t rewatched the original challenge videos, so I haven’t done much retyping with them in mind.

Not exactly. One of the problems with my tumblr is that I type a lot of low-hanging fruit, so to speak for ES types. There's so many that are very visible that I rarely have to search them out, and I miss a lot of variety, unfortunately, in that way.

I think you have a very affable vibe, and most of the ESFPs I've typed are constantly "on" (performing), or are kind of shy. I was thinking about Luke Wilson, a bit, in relation to you. I have him in ENFP right now, but he is probably actually an ESFJ.
