He swallowed thickly. “That’s it? You’re done?”

It was a quiet night of reading, Anders stretched the length of the sofa with his long legs dangling over the end, head and shoulders tucked into Garrett’s side who looped him in a loose, easy embrace. The contact warmed them where the fire could not. Hawke lost interest in his book after a time and set it aside, choosing instead to card his fingers through the mage’s long hair, rubbing small circles into his scalp and temples. The blonde was freshly bathed after the clinic, smelling like soap and skin and storm, lounging comfortably in fresh pyjamas. He looked content, and felt it too with the subtle press into his touch. When the book slipped in his partner’s loosened grip and his breaths evened into long, slow sighs, Garrett knew he’d finally managed to get Anders to relax. He kept going, fingertips getting gentler as every hidden tension dissipated. After a while he was only petting the man’s hair, combing his hand through in long passes. The slightest snore on an inhale suggested that he’d succeeded in helping the healer get some well-deserved rest as well.
