Sorry for the super late update, but here we go for week 3!
The week started out normal enough. Of course we had our usual crazy conversations at work, in which we talked about wizards and set up a Hunger Games analogy to describe our relationship.
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [8:17 AM]:
also today while i was calmly (not calmly at all) watching the soccer, the guy next to me was detailing over skype the romance novel he was writing
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [8:18 AM]:
the plot started off pretty standard and then all of a suddent there were wizards and councils of wizards and forbidden love and i was impressed
Russo, Sarah E. (Shanghai) [8:19 AM]:
LOL how did it go from standard to wizards?
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [8:20 AM]:
he hadn't quite worked that part out yet.
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [8:20 AM]:
one minute he was like well wouldn't it be fun if there were some magic in there
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [1:03 PM]:
"2:20pm: All volunteers arrive. Receive jerseys"
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [1:04 PM]:
it is going to be a hunger games like scenario at 2:30pm
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [1:04 PM]:
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [1:04 PM]:
you can be the peeta to my katniss
Russo, Sarah E. (Shanghai) [1:15 PM]:
I think I'd rather be Cato or Clove
Russo, Sarah E. (Shanghai) [1:15 PM]:
we'll be fighting over the same jerseys
Engle, Clara H. (Shanghai) [1:16 PM]:
but ultimately i will be willing to take the berries with you together because it is more important that we both are somewhat happy. otherwise i am throwing you under the bus and making sure you get a Red Sox's jersey....
Clara also continued her tradition of decorating my lunch bags for our weekly brown bag lunches. Here is the progression starting at week one.
And recently she's been leaving me notes too!! :D
Some point this week (I'm going with Wednesday) we had some more kitchen problems. Basically, our dishwasher went crazy with the bubbles. Everything came out clean though.
On Thursday at 11 PM we arrived at Zapatos to watch the USA vs. Germany game with the marines and other people from the consulate. The place was jam-packed with Germans, and it was pouring rain. It was a lot of fun, but for days afterwards Clara and I felt phantom raindrops and had to constantly look up at the ceiling to make sure it wasn't leaking.
Saturday was a lot of fun. We went over to Shanghai Center to celebrate the birthdays of two consular officers. We got to meet a lot of people in consular, and the bbq was delicious.
That night we went out again for the Brazil vs. Chile game. We weren't as invested, but it was still fun. Surprisingly, the Chinese fans seemed a little crazier than the Brazilian fans.
You'll see in the picture that I am wearing a gold bracelet. Clara would like as many people as she possibly can know that the bracelet supports research for the early detection of ovarian cancer.
