Gerard Quenum: Traces.
by Gerard Quenum
« Incertitudes », 2013 by Gerard Quenum
Gérard Quenum, Les Femmes Peul, 2007 This sculpture is part of an ancient tradition of mother and child figures made by many african peoples. It's suggest the notions of a 'mother of society', in which the smaller figure may represent an entire people. It is both a memorial to the resilience and achievements of the pastoralist Peul (Fulani) people, and also to the suffering they have endured, in recent wars and conflicts.
