What do you think about Brion? (yj)
Do you think he has redemption?
Was he a good character?
What do you think of his design?
Hi and thanks for the ask! :)
So.. I already answered your ask twice - but tumblr died for some reason without saving it... so here I go again. I might have forgotten something... :
/3. I think he is a very good character. Who also happens to have good character development throughout season 3! He did remind me a lot of early Superboy - also his relationship to Halo reminded me of Supermartian. OFC they decided to show a not good outcome by letting Brion kill his uncle - an extreme case that actually made it extremely interesting. Followed by some scenes in season 4 and YJ-Targets that lets him realize there might be something off. That's actually a very great character imo. A flawed one, who is learning. But also gets "manipulated" by powers into following the worst impulse. I do hope he -
2. - will have his redemption eventually. As shown in s4 and targets - he already realized things are weird..., so now this part of the story has to somehow play out. ..or you know first some kind of renewal..announcement... a chance to tell the story...
4. And I think his YJ-Design is overall really good.
I have seen people complaining that he looks "older than Nightwing". All I am seeing is the designers might be taking into account that he from another country and thats why he has those sideburns as such a "young age". I can recall going to school with a boy who had pretty early a fully grown mustache... I am talking about 11ish years old? Also, Brion is 17 ...i don't think thats unrealistic x3
His outfit is overall good... i like the overall pattern.
However, I am not a fan of the shades of green. (Still think it looks good)...but in comparision to his actual colors, its a bit boring. But I guess his actual colors are too much of "Hey look at me! I am hot lava!".
I might work on a new post soon because I have a comparision to make from a storytelling standpoint. (might link it here as well - if I ever do it ... and ofc remember to link it)
Can we all kind of agree that dc needs to heavily improve their power scaling? Whenever I look at the geoforce tag I get that godawful Batman Damian and talia comic where Brion rips off the costume or whatev and hello?!? The guy controls gravity so well he can stop bullets??? As athletic as the non metas in that area were theyāre nowhere near as fast as a bullet he shouldāve been able to pin them to the spot with his powers alone.
Yes Iām still salty ab Brion getting partially butchered writing wise. They could never make me actually hate him especially when it comes to being against talia as cool as she is I donāt like her. In fact I actually donāt like Damian or Bruce either, I seriously only read some issues of that comic for Brion alone.
Iām aware that Iām whining I donāt care, batman writers are dog shit at writing other characters and I get to complain about how bad they are.

What would have happened if the Ambassador hadnāt been there in Markovia when Brion captured Baron Bedlam. Would he still have executed his uncle and usurped his brotherās throne?
Honestly⦠i don't think he would have - he may have still done something drastic which separates him from the group - but i don't believe he would have gone as far as cold blooded murder without bazovvi and i definitely don't think he would have even considered taking the crown without someone prompting him to⦠bazovvi manipulates and plays upon a number of elements which all ultimately push brion to act the way he does - like riling up the crowds, bolstering his ego, reenforcing bedlams villainy and need to be stopped⦠potentially even influencing bedlam to make the decisions he makes. If you get rid of bazovvi and all the things he either psychically or verbally influences you are left with the brion who just discovered his sister has been working for the enemy and his elders/mentors knew without ever telling him about it.
In that moment brion would have been feeling hurt, betrayed, confused - all very valid, though thanks to him being massively self centred in general, his focus tends to remain all on him⦠itās about how he was kept in the dark, how he sacrificed everything to rescue Tara and has been betrayed, how he is the victim in all this⦠meanwhile Tara was victimised and manipulated by years of abuse after being abducted and gar just narrowly avoided being crushed by a rock. Brion doesn't really think beyond himself most of the time - if ever he does, it will often lead back to him serving his own ego in some way⦠with that in mind, I imagine him demanding explanations but refusing to actually listen to them, then he would start raging out because no one will say what he wants them to say - which is apologise to him specifically and admit they should have indeed told him - which they absolutely shouldnāt have because he would not have handled that information well at all. Then, I can see Dick telling him to chill out which again just infuriates him more and we know how Brion gets when his anger takes over - it may even be bedlam still tries to escape in the commotion but winds up feeling the brunt of his nephews rage⦠ultimately everything comes to a head when brions actions hurt halo as they try to talk him down - whether thatās emotionally hurt or physically - i dunno, but with it the damage is done and it all ends with him leaving - knowing he wants nothing to do with those who will keep secrets from himā¦
Now Iāll admit, thatās all very OTT and probably wouldnāt at all happen like that - it would likely play out a lot subtler - and better - but thatās just the string of events my brain is currently offering so I went with them. My point is, had bazovvi not been there, I think Brion would have still kicked off and done some sort of damage before ditching everyone to do things his own way, just not intensional murder levels of damage⦠when he gets into a state heās basically pure emotional energy without direction - more impulsive than methodical. Bazovvi, and jace for that matter, manipulates him by providing a particular direction for him to focus that energy on - like activating his meta gene, or killing that āwar criminalā bedlam, or claiming the markovian crown for himself. On his own I donāt think Brion would have ever come up with these ideas - especially when heās in a rage⦠So long story short, while Iāll admit I donāt think it took much nudging on bazovvis part to get Brion to kill bedlam and take his brothers thrown, bazovvi was still the main contributing factor which ensured everything happened the way it did⦠or at least, thatās my perspective on itā¦
This got so long and rambly - I hope it makes sense ( Iāve read through it so many time checking over it, my brains kinda gone numb to everything it says š¬) Anyway, thanks for the ask timewandererus!
