A bad case of nostalgia-
Ok, tonight's libation: vodka. First, in the form of 2 cosmos (grey goose, natch) and most recently in the form of a new fave--Deep Eddy peach with iced tea. Damn. Ugh, lets face it, I've got nothing original to say. I'm just another gen-xer wondering if this is really it. Gotta bad case of nostalgia lately & I find myself wanting to rewind to about 1985-86. I'd just like to go back to the time when I believed that there was some magic to growing up...do you remember that? Was it just me? I remember truly thinking that I couldn't wait to be an adult--and I CLEARLY remember my mom telling me it wasn't anything like I thought it would be. But I didn't believe her. I don't know WHAT I thought I would know/have/be...but I know it was movie-quality magic. Is it just girls? Is it only romantic souls? You think that you will be gifted with some power, some knowledge...and there will be love, and sex, and exciting nights & days full of....what? Maybe it's our generation. We grew up on tv, movies & top 40. We were adolescents in the decade of excess. Sitcoms don't usually address the monotony of bill-paying & child-rearing & basket after basket of laundry, now do they? Any problem a tv kid had was conveniently solved in 43 minutes or less. (Don't I wish.) The only thing I DO know is that my mom was right. And I guess the only thing I can hope for is that one day my kids will say the same thing. It would be nice to be right.
I think I speak for all GenXers when I say just how tired we are of both the generations we're sandwiched between. We STILL just want to be left alone to get on with our lives and are 1000% done with listening to all the BS.
