G3N:Lock has officially gotten better than RVVBY at team fights.
Considering that RVVBY was more or less made as an excuse to make cool team fights, thatās just sad.Ā
Itās sad because it shows that they have the resources to make RVVBY really great in their action and story, but they just seem to want to rush it. Maybe Volume 7 will be better, but stillā¦ Volumes 4 and 5 were total shitshows. They had the resources and the potential to do something good, but then they decided to half-ass it. G3N:Lock also managed to have a bigger emphasis on teamwork than RVVBY. Which is a problem considering that RVVBY constantly goes on and on about how āWorking together makes us strongerā but they hardly, if ever, actually work as a team. Itās always solo fights, or fights where they tag out.
As an aside, Iām sick and tired of the whole āYou can only understand Kazu if you understand Japanese or read the subtitlesā shtick. Put a goddamn universal translator on him.
On the plus side, Monicaās character came back. Which proves that G3N:Lock team knows how to utilize talent and resources far better than RVVBY and their whole āLetās kill Sienna Khan before giving her a full five minutes of screentime!ā
But then again, they made Milesā character more prominent. Figures. It feels like Miles is just physically incapable of not being just a supporting/minor character these days. I think the fame has gotten to his head.

Look, I like the show. I want to get that out of the way. Itās slow to start, and the first couple of episodes were a bit bumpy, but insofar, the show is kinda good.
Iām not going to pass judgement on it yet because weāre still in the first season but it feels a lot more competently made than rwby.
However, I will NEVER trust Miles āI gave Jaune four episodes all to himself in Volume 1 before the other half of the titular team got any episodes at allā Luna to not make his character more prominent. Iād rather we focus on the other characters instead. If we have to focus on one of the RT personalitiesā characters, Iād rather it be Grayās character or Chadās.
And if Milesā fans have an issue with that, understand that Iām coming from a place where Miles made Cinder fight Jaune instead of Ruby who had that matchup built up FOR OVER FOUR VOLUMES!
With that said, I really like the show, and I hope it does well.

I still donāt trust him to not push for it. He might even try to use his position to push for the actual writer (Whom I believe is Gray) to give his character more screentime and development.
And again: Like hell Iām trusting the guy who made Jaune vs. Cinder a thing before delivering on the Ruby vs. Cinder that was built up for over four volumes. Thatās like expecting me to think that a snowball would last a full hour on the surface of the sun.
I think for me to believe that Gen:Lock could be good, I need Gray to start making major moves to indicate that it isn't going to be your standard RT fare. The diverse cast and corresponding VAs and the fact that he put enough thought into his worldbuilding to consider things like how technology would affect gender and language are both good departures, but I need more than that.
I think the two major things I need to hear are
That Gen:Lock was written with a specific ending in mind and it's not going to just meander for 26 seasons.
That Gray did his anime homework and actually took important things away from it (maybe the diverse cast was inspired by Cowboy Beebop and he'll also tackle Future Capitalism Hell or maybe the genderfluid tech was inspired by Ghost in the Shell and he'll touch on transhumanism).
Honestly both mecha anime and RT's traditional brand of webseries have been done to death, and Gray needs to do more to stand out than just pull a bunch of big names if he wants Gen:Lock to not flop.

So I guess thatās how you donāt waste good talent. Miles and Kerry should really take some notes. And they had better be detailed.
So RT gave us a genderfluid Latine character and then made one of their personality traits "lecherous" because of course they had to absolutely ruin their one instance of trans/nb Latine representation by making them a creep like that isn't an extremely harmful stereotype of both the trans and wider LGBT+ community and the Latine community
