In some ways, yes, in others, not at all. 

While Genira and her ancestor share a common interest in science, their moral standards are very different. Genira has a set of standards and morals which dictate her experiments, which include “do little harm” and “don’t sell your morals out to the highest bidder”. Her ancestor, on the other hand, is very much not those things. She’s a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” for the empire, doing experiments on grubs and other trolls, uncaring of their feelings on the matter.
