Mayo Clinic Honor Includes Special Lights & Ceremony 

Rochester’s world famous Plummer Building glowed a shade of blue as Mayo Clinic marked the passing of a link to its historic past and values which place the needs of the patient first.

Sister Generose Gervais, who was a long-time administrator of Saint Marys hospital, died earlier this month at the age of 97.

The past few days have included visitations, vigils and a memorial service which culminated with the rare closing of the Plummer Building’s ornate bronze doors for around 5 hours on Tuesday afternoon.

Afterward the building’s flags were lowered and its tower glowed through the night in tribute.

Photographs of Sister Generose are currently on display in two locations in the lobby of the Mayo building, as well as in the Francis tower at Saint Marys. 

In notes posted on its internal web site Mayo noted “the photographs depict Sister Generose's life and her commitment to the values of respect, integrity, compassion, healing, teamwork, innovation, excellence and stewardship.”
