Happy butch lesbian day!!
Cranium Command headcanon of mine that I like to think is funny:
As a commando-in-training, General Knowledge’s first assignment was to pilot the brain of a puppy. He is deeply embarrassed by the aforementioned job and literally turns red with rage whenever one of the other sergeants brings it up to tease him, yet it undeniably ended up giving him a soft spot for dogs.
Whenever he checks in on a recruit and sees the craft that they’re piloting has a puppy, he immediately gets sidetracked, baby-talks it for a few minutes and then the second he comes to his senses, screams at the pilot to keep their mouth shut about it. None of the commandos who have witnessed this have ever been brave enough to snitch to their co-workers.
-
Meanwhile, (as an exaggeration from the demo audio), Captain Cortex is deathly afraid of dogs; ESPECIALLY those small, energetic puppies. However, he’s way too overconfident to admit that and instead pretends to strongly dislike them. You can only imagine how much this silently infuriates the General.
Surprise. Here we go again.
These two chapters establish and start off the second AU I’m launching for Cranium Command. However, this one is structured, and I plan to take longer with the release of new chapters. Whereas the oneshots focused more on Buzzy and Cortex, I’m trying something completely new: this is Sito-centric and focuses more on her and Neo, as well as the aftermath of those oneshots. (Talking about Buzzy, heads up: he’s still missing in this and nobody actively goes looking for him. He’s very much a part of the story, but don’t expect to see his face. Literally.)
Cranium Command music taste headcanons
Buzzy
-Buzzy listens to whatever’s on the radio. He always asks Bobby’s parents to turn it on in the car, and makes an effort to say something good about everything that plays. He really likes what they did with hyper and indie pop in the 2000s and he has a great time playing certain songs on repeat.
The only thing he doesn’t really like is loud music, yet he’ll tolerate it if someone he cares for wants to listen to it.
Cortex
-In the ‘90s, Cortex was ABSOLUTELY listening to dad butt-rock; and when I say “listening”, I mean, “face-down in the command center, sobbing to Nickelback and Creed”.
In the early 2000s, however, someone dropped an MP3 player with My Chemical Romance’s debut album on it in the queue. The second he got his hands on it, it was over. The emo / post-hardcore phase was immediate.
(His favorite song since 2018 has been “The Ghost of You”)
Sito
-Extreme metal. She doesn’t do it to look cool or dupe unsuspecting others into listening to it, it’s genuinely something she enjoys and appreciates. She prioritizes instrumentals over lyricism, so those distinct riffs are primarily what keep her coming back to the genre for more.
Surprisingly, she also doesn’t mind country music in the slightest. Despite being raised in Texas, she never got tired of hearing it. She really appreciates the acoustic guitar and people who know how to play the banjo correctly.
Trousdale
Trousdale is a massive EDM + club remix person. It reminds him of his days spent piloting frat boys, where he spent weeks on end going to raves, toilet-papering houses and crashing random parties. Play him some Skrillex and he’ll probably start doing backflips.
(Unbeknownst to his comrades, he’s also a DJ. He doesn’t have anywhere to demonstrate his abilities when he’s around them, so he doesn’t see the point in bringing it up.)
Neo + Hypothalamus
-Neo and Hypothalamus both listen to classical + orchestra music akin to that one Samsung ringtone almost every single person over 70 has (https://youtu.be/k9_We6518SE).
Hypothalamus is very reserved about it, and is extremely well-educated regarding the genre as a whole. He knows what he’s talking about, and is often respected for it. On the contrary, Neo boasts and brags about it like it’s the best thing ever and all other music is trash.
Burton
-Burton listens to everything because he’s Burton.
Mainstream pop, hip-hop, classical, rap, rock, R&B, bachata, J-Pop, K-Pop, folk, throat singing, chanting, country, yodeling; you name it, he likes it, and he’s always willing to discover more. If anyone appreciates art on the Cranium Command, it’s him.
General Knowledge
Music distracts him from getting his work done, so therefore he finds it annoying.
However, this doesn’t mean he’s against it as a whole; he’s very glad it exists and is fully aware of the amount of talent it requires; that is, until it’s the Cranium Command marching band (Which IS a thing in my AU; that’s where the pre-show chant came from).
He thinks they sound like garbage and 90% of the time, practices for it consist of the commandos doing 100+ pushups for not sounding exactly how he wanted them to after the first attempt. They suck, and that’s mostly his fault.

CC AU relationship dynamics (+ rambling)
Found this chart on Pinterest (posted by @/dnikolett12) and decided to throw this together using it.
Brief rambles/clarifications:
-The jealousy Cortex feels towards Buzzy is not unhealthy or harmful to either one of them in any way. It’s a controlled and natural response, something they’ve talked about and is always being improved upon.
-Although he can be a bit much, nobody really dislikes Cortex aside from Neo. They kind of just accept him as he is; it used to be solely because General Knowledge wanted him around and they were scared to defy him, but they kind of grew used to his personality and presence.
-Buzzy respects everyone and everything no matter what. He’s far too kind for this world.
-Despite his sarcastic, blunt exterior, Hypothalamus is like a wise old grandpa. While introverted, he’s not unfriendly by any means and will always remember kind gestures that are done for him.
-Hypothalamus adores both Buzzy and Neo. He has tried to bring them together numerous times to no avail.
-General Knowledge has a soft spot for both Buzzy and Cortex that he has for nobody else. These two aren’t just rare exceptions, they’re the ONLY exceptions.
-Regarding the other commandos, the general dislikes them in a way that’s like, “You’re annoying and not up to my standards, get out my sight” and not, “If you wind up going under, I’ll just let you drown.” He absolutely wouldn’t just stand by if anything bad were to happen to them.
-The relationship between G.K. and Neo isn’t just “maybe the cranky Grandpa cares deep down and doesn’t want to show it”, no. While he does remember her fondly in her youth (primarily because she was too young to talk smack to him and his son), he straight up just doesn’t like her. This is never played for tragedy, only for laughs because she hates him too.
