Next up on iconic things my cisgender heterosexual spouse has said to me during pride month:
"It doesn't count! You can't be bisexual without a gender"
Pitch: the gender neutral version of a stag/hen do should be the 'fox do'.
Cons: people will ask you "What's a fox do?"
Pros: you can answer "Mischief, mainly."
Wore a “suit” (dress pants, dress shirt with tie and a vest) for the first time and it’s the most gender I’ve ever felt.
Woke up before my alarm because of this so I'm just going to vent. I hate that I feel like I can only be my entire queer self online.
You see, I have like 4-5 family members who know I'm not straight and are cool with it, but they don't know that I'm genderqueer.
My sister, the one family member I decided to tell about my gender identity, who is cool about my orientation, won't use my preferred pronouns or my chosen name. Since my chosen name is my deceased Dad's nickname and they were close, it hurts my sister to use it. She also won't use my chosen pronouns b/c they/them pronouns don't make sense to her. My sister has been so supportive & understanding in other areas of my life, except this.
Since coming out to my sister backfired, I haven't come out to any other family members about being genderqueer. I don't want to lose the safe space I have with my other family members, esp. since I'm an adult who lives with emotionally abusive parent that I'm a caregiver for.
It also doesn't help that I feel like I'm not genderqueer enough sometimes and that's why I couldn't get my sister to understand my gender identity. Other than picking a new name and changing my pronouns, I haven't wanted to change anything else. The only time I make changes to my physical appearance is getting my haircut when it starts growing out too much or when I occasionally get new clothes that fit my personal style & gender expression. I don't want HRT or to medically transition; I'm fine with my physical body and that shouldn't make me any less genderqueer.
I wish I didn't have to compromise or hide part of who I am in my personal life just to have a safe space to exist.

So there was this meme recently that was like, "Describe your gender in ten words or less without using boring words like 'nonbinary' or 'feminine'". And I get that it was supposed to encourage folks to be creative with their gender identity, but it made me feel a bit lost.
I've known I'm a nonbinary femme since my mid twenties and I'm almost 32 now. I always thought that maybe I could be like those anime girl-princes like Utena or Haruhi, but I don't think I'm cool enough. And honestly, I think I like their clothes more than whatever attitude or personality they have.
If I am being really, really honest, I feel more like a magical bard from a Final Fantasy game than a girl-prince now. I think being a bard suits my nickname, Penn, better than being a girl-prince does. And I *am* a poet so there's that too.
Some people say bards suck in a Final Fantasy game. Maybe they don't have the most active skills for combat, but I've always liked their outfits. And I will never forget a certain spoonie bard, Edward, from Final Fantasy IV. Shout out to Tumblr user @wyvorin for making this cool GIF!
I painted the Chicory game protagonist (who I named Cookie) pink, blue, and purple because I thought it would make them genderqueer AF but then I realized that these are also the bi pride flag colors & I'm totally fine with that. Besides, nobody genders the protagonist in this game.
Btw I changed my name. My name is now Lain ✨☺️
