Feminism
So Feminism has been a hot topic recently because of Emma Watson’s address of the United Nations on September 20th 2014 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-iFl4qhBsE). Well if I’m honest its not that hot anymore because in our ‘crazy mad globalized we want news now’ world anything that happened over 3 weeks ago is not recent. I am however going to weigh in on this party with my 2 cents even if I’m a bit late because I want to. Also all the cool people arrive to the party late, right?
Lets start by defining feminism so we are all singing from the same hymn sheet. The be all and end all source of definitions is the Internet. FACT. So when I asked the Internet to define feminism it described it as
“The advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.”
So if you’re moderately intelligent and not a dickhead (that’s a combination of traits that is actually quite rare) you’ll be in favour of feminism I hope. But now here comes a clanger. Are you ready?
I’m not in favour of feminism and I am moderately intelligent and not a dickhead (in my own opinion). So before you hurl a shite tonne of abuse at me let me at least attempt to explain myself.
In Ms. Watson’s speech she stated that feminism was seen as a dirty word and man-hating. I believe this is because people don’t understand the definition. Their perception of the definition is wrong. However a great philosopher (my auld man) once said to me that ‘an individual’s perception is their reality’. Now if you ask anyone to think anything other than his or her reality you are insane. So people will continue to believe feminism to be a man-hating word no matter what the mudblood muggle witch says. To be honest I don’t blame the masses for misunderstanding the word either. When you mention women specifically in the word and the definition you are immediately making them seem more important than the gender you are trying to make them equal to. If you call it ‘orangism’ when you try and make oranges equal to all fruit, the fruits will think you are trying to make oranges more important than them. You should call it fruitism. So I have decided on behalf of all people in the world that we are getting rid of the word feminism and replacing it with the title Genderism.
Genderism shall be defined as (for now)
“The advocacy of human's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.”
I believe in treating the sexes fairly. Now that brings up an issue with my new definition. If a woman is as good as a man she should be treated the same. If a woman is better than a man she should be treated better. If a woman is worse than a man she should be treat worse. Don’t just treat people equally because that’s what the world tells you to do. Treat people as they deserve. Treat people fairly not equally.
So here we have it. I am now at a place where I can be happy with a word and it's definition.
Genderism
“The advocacy of human's rights on the ground of the fair treatment of the sexes.”
So go forth and be an advocate of genderism. That is if you want to. I don’t really care what you do but at least I am happy that this has all been cleared up.
I look forward to hearing your response Emma and I look forward to receiving the invitation to speak on my ‘visionary insights’ all you United Nations folks.
So theres my thoughts on 'Feminism'.
