“Aw, Grog!” Gem blushed hotly, shrugging and waving her hand dismissively and then laughed, “Of course, if you woulda been there, they’da just screamed like little babies and run away!”

“Of course I am! Great atmosphere and good company. It’s been pretty much a perfect day so far.” 

Gem chuckled, swinging her feet as they didn’t touch the ground sitting on the bench. She sipped at her cup of hot cocoa and took a deep breath looking around for some kind of stall with food. She glanced to Melody, not brave enough to ask if she wanted to maybe play together for a bit of money while they were here.

"Technically, you killed him."

"What? No-- I just--He was mean to us! He deserved to be told he was too ugly for anyone to love!"

Gem didn't want to believe the guy was ...actually dead. He was mean but not vicious... Gem gripped her dagger tightly and inched up to the man.

"Where does he get off talking to us like that anyway?" She leaned over him, unaware she was even using her other hand to hover over him... just in case, fingers splayed with magic she was barely aware of. She kicked him. He didn't move.

Dear Caleb,

I hope this letter finds you well. Heck, I hope it finds you at all. Ain’t ever been to Alfield. I’m not from Wildemount. Not sure I ever mentioned that to you.

Anyway, I heard you and some friends got up to some real big heroics! Savin’ the town and everything! No one mentioned your name, don’t worry. I know you’re a bit private. That’s okay. Not like me. Haha. They just said you was handsome and well a general description of ya. I knew it was you. I knew you’d do something great one day.

Also heard about your group and some crazy ass circus attack? Please write back because I HAVE GOT to hear more about that! People saying a lot of different things about that. I’m sure half of it ain’t even true. Sure the real story is way better. And if you let me write a song about it, I’ll make sure things are accurate before any poetic license is added.

I just wanted to say I was thinking of ya. That’s all really. That party was one of the best nights of my life and not cause we had good booze and good food and got to put on a fancy dress (and a real smart suit). You know how I was-- all down on myself. I do like performing, honest. I wouldn’t be making my livin’ that way if I didn’t. But stuff like that sometimes, you know, fancy people, makes me nervous. And I know how shy you get too, so you being there with me really made a difference. Thank you.

You mean a lot to me, Caleb. I just needed you to know that. You’re a good guy, even though sometimes I think you don’t think too much of yourself. I get it. I feel that way, too, sometimes. Surprise. Haha.

Take care of yourself. Let your new friends take care of you, too. I hope I get to meet ‘em someday. They sound pretty colorful. I think you could use more color in your life, Caleb.

“That sure sounds like a plan. You buyin’, friend?”

Gem grinned at the goblin. She’d never met one before, not like him. Nothing like him. She pushed her glass towards the barkeep again, giving them a wink. She was a halfling, colorfully dressed, heavily made up, her hair an unnatural yellow and red, shaved down on one side.

“You too, huh?” Gem was still awake. Having been hired at the tavern she tended to stay up late, usually having only the second shift innkeeper to be her begrudging company. She couldn’t play piano, as they had received complaints about her late night playing.

The halfling bard took a sip of her ale, turning to the other girl sitting at the bar.

“Name’s Gem. I don’t think I’ve seen you here before...?”
