Dear Diary,
Spinel really loves the flying gem creatures. They fly around her and settle on her nose and fingers and make her giggle.
I wonder what keeps the gemless smaller ones alive since they don't have a gem to absorb light. I've already taken the Matriarchal gem and taken her to my lab to see if the smaller ones can last.
I don't understand how these smaller creatures work. They do not poof alongside their mother gem and they do not need to absorb sunlight... its really strange... I will keep track of my study progress in my notes.

I've made something today! My experiments show some chance of success!
It's a gem creature unlike any other I've seen before!
It is like on of those creatures found on a colony planet when the other Diamonds first arrive! It... doesn't seem awake like I am though...
It's wild. Free from the structure of the Diamond Authority even though it is as white as White Diamond herself. It even has a strange talent.
The large one seems to replicate herself into smaller copies. But these smaller ones do not have their own gem and simply disappear when poofed.
No more little one.
I don't know what to call these... creatures... but they fly so softly compared to our winged gems.
And they look like flittering shards of a broken gem... so disturbing... yet so beautiful... I will have to draw it...

The Gem Mimic
The Gem Mimic is an odd creature, found only in warm climates. They are extremely hostile, and are to be avoided at all costs. When observed from afar the take the forms of native creatures in an attempt to fit in. It is currently unknown as to why they do this, as they have been shown to be herbivores. When approached by human or Gem they become hostile, and take the form of loved ones of their prey, perhaps through telepathic means. The form taken looks almost normal, other than the distinctive ruby red glow from the creatures eyes, and lack of pupils. They seem to gain the powers of the chosen form, so extreme care should be taken by Gems attempting to subdue the creature. They are quadrupedal, with long pointed legs. Adults are on average around two meters in height, and infants are around one. So far there seems to be no distinction between male and female forms. Their gems are placed between two large red eyes, with slitted pupils. When in a different form their gem is undetectable, but they are still vunerable to most attacks other than fire. The Gem Mimics are incredibly intellegent creatures, able to perfectly replicate the voice and speech pattern of a chosen person. Take care and always look out for a deep red glow coming from friends and loved one's eyes. (Figured I'd repost this, just a creature I thought up!)

This gem I kind of suspect was a guardian of maybe the Hourglass room, or at least some underwater gem location. Cute octopus bubble armor.
