After the events that had happened in Paris it feels odd to be in his London apartment. Thereās a heaviness in his heart at the loss and outcome within the mausoleum. A quiet anger steeping in him in all that had happened, his choices made and heās none the better for it. His home is full of people-- With Jacob and Tina. Heās not quite sure what to do with the pairās company then, though heād spent so long to reach out for and find Tina.
Thereās so much he wants to say to the pair, but with the distressed look Jacobās given and the hard expression Tina wears he canāt find what he wants to say. He finds thatās not exactly strange-- Heās always had difficulty with words, has had to express himself with actions and expressions for as long as he remembers. There is no words he can find to console them and he does not want to cheapen the effect, especially when his own heart mourns.
Jacob seems keen on talking and trying to get sorted and Newt finds he does not mind. The other joins him in the basement of his flat and heās glad to see that the wonder is not yet lost on his friend. Glad to see the muggle can find a certain peace amongst his creatures as he does in this trying time. With Jacob there and Bunty an astute observer who shows the other around Newt finds himself wandering to the more dangerous of creatures. The kelpie needs seeing to, as it lacks a certain fondness for his assistant and so he tries to deal with it on his own. And the Zouwu, well, it needs a place doesnāt it? So he busies himself listening to the chatter from around the basement, ears seeking one particular voice he does not hear.
Newt frowns to himself, training his hearing to go further but itās almost as if the woman isnāt in the apartment. He knows she is, though things were still a bit well... Stiff between them he doubted sheād leave without a word. He hoped, anyway. The idea that she might not prickled in the back of his mind and as he continued so did his concern. When heās finally done and sees to letting Bunty go home and rejoining Tina he finds her in the living room. He does not see Jacob glance between them, but his ears prickle at the otherās quiet excuse,Ā āYou donāt have much in the house, Iām just gonna... go pick us up some groceries...ā
Yes, do that, please. He remembers thinking it but heās not sure he said it and heās not entirely sure he said much to Tina either. His fingers scratching behind his ear before he made his way up the stairs to his second floor. Newtās not very good at people he finds. Heās so much better with creatures, but Jacobās insisted for near days now that associating Tina with a creature wasnāt very flattering (heās not exactly sure why, the creatures he associates with her are some of the most beautiful in the world-- very fitting).
So he canāt relate her like a creature but he hardly knows what to say-- but his mind, desperate for something to help, tells him that thereās nothing wrong in caring as he would a creature. Just human, so human caring. And like creatures they needed comforting things and cleaning and-- Well, itās such an abrupt thought to make her a bath but it feels right. Warm water and bath oils heād gotten on his trip to Asia always relaxed him and they had something to make the muscles less tense. Surely that would do and so heād set about filling the tub and setting everything up and heās quietly pleased with himself when he comes down.
Despite that, he stands at the foot of the staircase gray-green eyes not quite falling on her form in the couch (though heād found himself unable to tear his eyes from her in the past few days, determined to capture the fire in her eyes in a way photographs did no justice too). His eyes only dart up when he hears her rise, glad to her hear speak in what feels like the first time in days (he knows itās not been, but it feels too long when heād wanted nothing more than to see her again for many months).
āNo,ā he starts abruptly and then stops,Ā āno, itās really no trouble.āĀ
A beat passes and heās sure thereās something more he should say. Something comforting, something warm, but instead the next words that come out make him want to kick himself in his mouth.Ā āI just thought, well, you hadnāt had much of a chance I suppose during your-- ah-- interrogation. Perhaps youād appreciate the chance?ā He knew the word interrogation in this case was a sore subject and so he colors slightly stepping away from the banister and into the sitting room. Now just behind the back of the couch itself his eyes remain trained on his feet a moment longer before he chances a proper glance up at her-- light eyes searching for ones that were as dark as souls with hidden warmth.
āI want you to feel at home here, Tina. Itās not much... But do know you are welcome to whatever you may find here as long as you stay. Youāre welcome here as long as you need. You and Jacob both,ā Newt says quickly, feeling as if heās said more words at once then heād done in a long time. He turns his attention away, cheeks coloring a slight pink as he susses out what next to say and finds himself coming to one simple word.
He clears his throat,Ā āso, tea.āĀ
The man glanced towards her then offering her what he could only hope was a comforting smile as he stepped away-- Uncertain of what further to say or do and content that at least he didnāt compare her to a creature (Jacob would be glad) and heād managed to say something halfway eloquent. Maybe.
