Thoughts about 3/4 Hybrids in Beastars
A few months ago, I was thinking about Melon's hybrid issues, particularly the biological issues concerning his sense of taste, and how Legoshi didn't suffer from them due to being a carnivorous hybrid (3/4 gray wolf, 1/4 Komodo dragon), and I was wondering: If a carnivore-herbivore hybrid mated with a pureblooded carnivore or pureblooded herbivore, what would their children be like? Would they suffer the same as Melon, with conflicting biology and lack of taste, or would they start off that way only to gradually recover their taste palates? No doubt they'd still be discriminated against, but they'd probably be able to pass off as more pureblooded with some minor traits as they came of age with their metamorphosis. They'd probably look more like a carnivore-herbivore hybrid as a child (neither fully carni or herbi like how Mel looked after he physically changed?), but during their transformation they'd probably end up passing off more like a pureblooded carnivore or herbivore? Considering how much we know about carnivore-herbivore hybridization in the Beastars universe, and how Paru didn't really bring something like this up, I'm assuming that 3/4 carnivore, 1/4 herbivore hybrids (or vice versa) would work somewhat like this. It's interesting to think about.
Just wanted to upload something art-related and nothing I have at the moment is even finished or close to being finished (or not even scanned to the PC yet), and so I figured this was the closest, if you ignore the obvious flaws, anyway. It has been on indefinite hiatus for a while now due to art-block and lack of motivation, I guess. Hence why the trees in the background lack depth. I was working on it since 2022, and so I may never finish it at this rate. I'll probably just redraw it, which was what I was going to do anyway.
So here's my half-hellhound character Kairo (or Shigure as he was called in the time of drawing and coloring this last year) losing control of his hellhound-side/flames. It's a scene for my third book, though I don't know if I'll have enough material for seven books. Basically, the story behind this scene is Kairo awakens in this tanuki (raccoon dog) village after his friends rescue him from Skeldrae's, um, "pack", having been unconscious for either weeks or a month. I haven’t decided yet. But his trauma at the hands – er, paws – of Skeldrae (and Yvalja) causes him to go into fight-or-flight mode when he doesn't recognize his surroundings, not only attacking the other dogs when they try to check up on him, but also causing his Bloodflames to leak out to protect himself when he flees outside. The only one to calm him is Talya (the white dog), but Kairo loses consciousness once more due to overexertion. He basically goes through lots of horrific, traumatic, unspeakable shit at Skeldrae's paws, and his emotions spiral out of control, and Talya ends up being the one to calm his fear, his rage, and his pain in this scene. But unbeknownst to Talya, Ben, Boris, and Roger, Kairo's wounds end up being more than physical. It takes a while for him to recover during their journey to Elysia.
