Zane laughed at the joke Kawaii~Chan had just made, having to put the milk carton he was previously drinking from down. After he calmed down, he took a final sip from his milk carton, pulling his mask back over his mouth. He had a scar there from when he got into a fight with Gene, and he didn’t want anyone else to see it.

Him and Kawaii~Chan smiled as Katelyn, Teony, Aphmau, Aaron, Garroth, and Laurance sat down across from them. Aphmau pulled out her anime themed lunch bag, while Garroth and Laurance pulled out their homework.

“Finishing your homework 30 minutes before it’s due?” Teony asked, “Quite risky.” Garroth grumbled a response, and Laurance just rolled his eyes. “I didn’t wanna do it last night, so I didn’t!”

Katelyn laughed, setting her juice on the table. “That’s the lamest excuse ever, even you know it is.” Laurance’s face went bright red as he saw Aphmau laughing at the situation.

Aaron (thankfully) changed the subject, talking about the test they had just finished taking. 

“It was easy!” Teony said, pulling a sandwich out of her bag. “I flew through all the questions! It was actually pretty fun!”

Katelyn bumped Teony’s shoulder with her own, taking a bite from her apple, “Yeah, well, not everyone is as smart as you Teony. But I still think I did pretty well. I definitely messed up question 4 though.”

Kawaii~Chan looked up from the book sitting in her lap, “Oh yeah, Kawaii~Chan definitely messed up question four as well. But Kawaii~Chan thinks she got the rest right! How about you, Zane~Kun?”

Zane lifted his head from his arms, where it was previously resting. He looked at everyone, before his brain finally processed the question. “Oh, I don’t think I made any mistakes, but who knows? We’re just gonna have to wait until we get our marks back. There’s no point in worrying about it.”

Aphmau nodded, “Well put Zane!” Zane took a fake bow in his seat, “Thank you Aphmau, I try.” That earned a laugh from the rest of the group.

They spent the rest of their lunch hour chatting. Talking about the school sports teams, different clubs, and their classes. They heard the bell ring and all started walking to their next class, laughing and joking as they walked. They only had about 10 minutes to get to class.

They were all walking in a clump, laughing and joking, until a foot came out of nowhere, tripping Aphmau. Aaron went to help Aph and make sure she was ok, while everyone else turned to see who tripped her.

They all let out a groan as they saw the shadow knights standing there. They were the school bullies. Zane, Kawaii~Chan and Aphmau had frequent ‘meetings’ with them, because they weren’t as strong or tough as the others.

Aaron helped Aph up, she was holding onto his arm with one hand, and holding her bleeding nose with the other. Aaron announced he was taking her to the office, and they walked off, Gene smirking at their backs the entire time.

“What’s your damage Gene? Why can’t you just leave us alone?” Laurance said, glaring at the three kids. Laurance did have to give them the fact that they were quite intimidating, all 3 being quite tall for their age.

“What do you mean Laurance? We didn’t do anything wrong!” Sasha said, all three of them giving the group an innocent look.

“Bullshit!” Zane shouted, pushing past Garroth and Laurance, glaring at Gene. “You purposely tripped Aphmau and e all know it! It’s because she turned you down yet again! Just give it up Gene, she’s never gonna like somebody like you!” 

Everyone went silent, including the shadow knights. Zane and Gene didn’t break eye contact for even a second. Everyone could feel the tension in the air, no one daring to move. Then everyone heard it before they saw it. They heard the smack of Gene’s hand hitting Zane’s jaw, causing him to stumble back a few steps.

Before anyone could react, Zane kicked Gene’s ankle hard, causing him to fall back, his back slamming into the ground, causing the air to rush out of his lungs.

Kawaii~Chan grabbed Zane’s arm, as the rest of them started running down the hallway. They heard shouts from Zenix and Sasha, but they ignored them, laughing as they ran. They walked into the nurses office, Zane holding his jaw, and Kawaii~Chan holding his arm.

Aphmau and Aaron looked up from their chairs, waving at the group, “Looks like it went well with you guys,” Aaron said, rolling his eyes. Garroth put an arm around Zane’s shoulders, sporting a proud smile. “My baby brother totally took Gene down!” 

Zane shrugged his arm off, before the Nurse pulled him onto a cot, examining his jaw. The rest of them laughed, as Teony told the story of what happened, maybe exaggerating a bit. Katelyn leaned her head on Teony’s shoulder, while everyone waited for the nurse to give Zane and Aphmau the green light. 

Zane held some ice to his chin, and Aphmau washed the blood from her nose off of her hands. They walked out of the room, thanking the nurse as they left, talking about what they were gonna tell the teacher when they got to class. All celebrating their victory, and getting ready to hand in their unfinished homework.
