My ranking of Catherine’s Order of the Garter Looks
9. 2014 - Christopher Kane
Catherine, I have to give you credit for not wearing a dead ferret around your neck like some people chose to do on this day. However, wearing a shiny silky coat with no shape and an ugly hat is also not acceptable. Did she choose a worse outfit so Sophie didn't look so bad? Did Sophie hide her outfit so she didn't look even worse and then Catherine had to find a new one at short notice?
8. 2011 - Katherine Hooker
I actually quite like this coat! It's got just enough about it to be interesting but it's not overpowering. The hat is a bit odd but let's be honest, Catherine didn't really figure out hats until 2019. Don't get me wrong, I do not need to see her wear this again but... I don't know. I think maybe I love it?
7. 2008 - Philip Somerville
This is super cute. Once again, the hat is atrocious but it's also the best hat in this photo because Camilla appears to have some sort of kitchen appliance on her head and the woman behind them is being eaten alive. This is a "I'm a normal person going to the Order of the Garter - I guess I wear a suit?" look. It's a look designed to fade into the background and it succeeds. But it is cute.
6. 2022 - Alexander McQueen
This gets points for being a nice bright colour and for her nice hair. It loses points for making her look like a blue marshmallow. I can only imagine she had some sort of falling out with Sarah Burton before this coat was made because why would anyone make this intentionally.
5. 2019 - Catherine Walker
Ok so from this point onwards, I actually genuinely like all of her looks and I have a real soft spot for this one. The public have taken against this coat and the public are wrong. The black piping is cool and it makes the outfit look significantly more elegant and interesting. The hat is not fantastic but the rest of the look boosts it up the ranking.
4. 2023 - Alessandra Rich
As I've already said, this is her second best white and dark colour polka dot silk Alessandra Rich dress, worn with a big hat in June. The shoes are ugly and hideous but apart from that, this look is a triumph. Her make up is phenomenal. I literally dream of her make up from this day.
3. 2025 - Self-Portrait
The way this outfit has gone from being one of my least favourite outfits she's ever worn to being a real favourite of mine this year. This might have made the top spot if it wasn't for the fact that the time she wore this outfit one month earlier was infinitely better. But I really have no faults. She looks incredible. Wait, I do have a fault. I don't like the pearls. But that's it.
2. 2016 - Catherine Walker
Let's be clear, this look is this high in spite of the coat, not because of it. The colour is exceptional. I cannot fault it. The hat remains iconic. Her hair is perfect. There are so many photos of her getting out of the car and y'all know I like that. The coat is pretty ugly though.
2012 - Alexander McQueen
Look, when I started making this ranking, I didn't realise I would choose the same outfit that was top of my Trooping ranking too. This coat is just t h a t good. Her hair is down. She's wearing the SLEDGES. Also, it's nice to see her knees. Bring back Catherine's knees.
