@garrthedustbun liked this post for a drabble!
The knight drew his sword and pointed it at Garr. "En garde!" he cried, and lunged in.
The dust bunny rolled his eyes, smiling as he easily parried the thrust. "Come on, Bones, you always start our spars the same. Old. Way. How am I supposed to improve when I can read you like a- oof!" he said, stumbling back a bit as the dog monster rammed the hilt of his sword into Garr's side.
"Come on, Garr," Bones teased, mimicking the bunny's tone of voice. "How are you supposed to improve when you let your enemy lull you into a false sense of security?"
His opponent laughed, twirling his blade. "Fair enough. Lesson learned. Now show me what you've really got!" He closed the distance between him and Bones, the dog monster doing likewise. The two Royal Guards began sparring in earnest now, each one poking and prodding for openings in the other's guard while dodging their attacks. At last, their swords interlocked, slowly sliding down to the hilt as neither one refused to quit, until at last Lady Fortune smiled on Garr. Suddenly, the hilt of Bones' sword cracked, and the gleaming metal fell out of place.
"Darn it, that's the third one this week!" Bones laughed, dropping the useless weapon. "I'm going to need to get a better blade. One to counter your breaking abilities." He winked at his fellow guard, who grinned. "You'll have a stronger blade, and I've improved my technique. I think we've both gained from this session."
"Agreed, my friend! Now let's grab a drink and cool off. I'm buying, since you won," the dog monster said, as they cleaned up the mess and headed out of the training hall.
