I have been waiting impatiently for this book Garden Maker by @christiepurifoy to come out for months, and now that it has , I will probably do nothing but spend the entire day in bed reading it with endless cups of tea and cats. It’s as beautiful as I knew it would be… one of her first chapters is on roses and it’s absolutely perfect. She says what most traditional rosarians will never say and that is that we make roses difficult… and that they don’t have to be difficult. I have never found roses difficult so I almost cried when I read those words. Gardening isn’t difficult…it’s a path of pure joy when it’s pursued with soul and love, not ego. I am reminded of my father who tended his gorgeous roses and gardens everyday not because he really cared what anyone else saw, but because of the magic and learning they brought to his life…This may be the only gardening book you need to read this year…I know that this is simply going to be one of the loveliest days that I’ve spent in awhile, reading the words of a kindred soul.
