Garcy + squeezing hand for comfort and encouragement
Post-canon-divergent, PG-ish, also on ao3.
Reentering the mundane world somehow takes almost as long as Lucy was out of it.
Bad enough that she lost her thirties to a series of situations way beyond her control, because things just kinda kept going sideways and sheās surprised everyone she loves survived. Bad enough that by the end she did love everyone, in a way, the shared experience being what it was and theyāre all stuck with each other forever and-
No one who wasnāt there would ever understand, sheās convinced. Unfortunately, a bouquet of suits from a series of government agencies sheās barely heard of don't seem to share this opinion.
At least theyāre past the separate interrogation stage. She didnāt see her partner for almost a month, and sheās surprised it was that short, sheād worried-
Heās here now, she reminds herself. Heās here now, next to her, awkward in a suit that doesn't fit, a shell of the man she's seriously considered binding the rest of her life to. There are questions she hasnāt asked, won't ask until this is all over, until theyāre in some tiny fixer-upper of a house in some flyover state, until well after theyāve started to begin again and-
Her fingers thread with his. She can do that and not destroy them.
āHope our stories matched,ā she whispers. There are three lower-level suits staring at them, in this waiting area they may be in for hours. Supposedly, this is the end of it, but sheās had enough experiences with bureaucracy to have serious doubts there, and-
āI don't think thatās what this is. More⦠now we have to justify how expensive we were.ā
āWe werenāt. Were we?ā
Fine, so thereās paperwork she never saw. Curse of being the most civilian member of the team ā even Jiya had a security clearance before, or at least had considered she might need one at some point in her career. Lucy is not of that world; Lucy is happy to be out of that world, or almost out, and-
āNot the point. We arenāt an easy trophy for them."
āSo what happens if this goes wrong?"
āNothing that ruins us. This is just⦠closure. Might ruin someone elseās career, but-ā
āNot anyone we know," Lucy finishes.
āNot anyone we know.ā
They stay there in silence for what feels like forever, fingers threaded, one last calm before a storm. They get through this, she tries to convince herself, and then itās over. Whateverās nextā¦

Just watched Timeless for the first time and wanted to share my thoughts about the whole Garcy vs Lyatt relationship dynamic. This is from the pov of someone who was all about Lyatt through the Hollywoodland episode and by mid-season 2 wanted Lucy to get with Flynn. This is long. Sorry.
I definitely saw some parallels between Wyatt/Jessica/Lucy in season 1 and beginning of season 2, and Lucy/Wyatt/Flynn in mid-season 2 onwards. In both cases, character A (Wyatt and Lucy) is all about character B (Jessica and Wyatt) but character B is not available (sheās dead, heās married). Meanwhile, character C (Lucy and Flynn) is into character A, character A and C have a great connection, and could potentially be a great couple if character A stops constantly thinking about character B.
So when Wyatt was finally able to let go of Jessica and begin a relationship with Lucy, I was genuinely happy and thought it showed a lot of emotional and character growth on his part.
But then Jessica came back, and the relationship dynamics changed. And now it was Lucy stuck wanting someone she couldnāt have. Meanwhile, there was Flynnāwitty, intelligent, good-looking, badass Flynnāwho cared for Lucy and was there for her whenever she needed him. But instead of growing and letting go of Wyatt, she spends season 2 pining and moping over him, dutifully and patiently waiting, not having sex or even kissing(?) anyone during that time. Maybe I would have been more sympathetic if Lucy and Wyatt had been in a relationship for some time but they slept together once. But the time we got to the scene where Flynn hands Lucy the beer, I wanted Lucy to forget about Wyatt and get with Flynn. And when Lucy and Wyatt do get back together, it was only after Jessica was no longer an option. Even after Wyatt found out that Jessica was Rittenhouse, he wanted to give Jessica a second chance, pleading for her to choose him and their ābaby.ā So when Jessica chooses Rittenhouse and he later finds out there is no baby from his future self, thatās when Wyatt chooses Lucy. But would Wyatt still choose Lucy if he was told that Jessica actually was pregnant with his child, or if Jessica told Wyatt she no longer wants to be Rittenhouse? I doubt it.
And then they had Rufus tell Lucy that she wasnāt Wyattās second choice, which was extremely frustrating, because at that time Rufus had no memory of the Jessica-is-alive timeline. And Iām almost positive if Wyatt found out that Lucy was Rittenhouse and was lying about having his child, he would have treated Lucy the same way he treated Jessica. But none of that mattered and Lucy got back with Wyatt, and I guess I was supposed to find the whole woman-patiently-for-her-man romantic. But I didnāt. I thought it was pathetic.
4) messy drunk sex that is then forgotten the morning after
Lucy is something past drunk. What else is new?
The habits that got her through a rough stretch of time havenāt gone away in mundane life, not that sheās particularly tried. She likes being numb. She likes not being a person. She likes that yes sheāll feel like roadkill tomorrow, and yes sheāll stress out her partner but in the fun way, and-
Before that happens, she has better ideas.
She gets tactile when she drinks, and it takes a little time to find him ā the contours of this house are still unfamiliar to her, and the world has a certain blur ā but heās conveniently in their bedroom and it is very, very fun to yank him down for a decent kiss.
Itās not amazing. Nothing they could do right now would be. Sheās just buzzing inside, like she needs skin on skin, like she needs-
āThat kind of night,ā he murmurs when they break for air, not the question it should be. His voice is heavy, and she knows he copes differently than she does but maybe he needs to get out f his head too, maybe-
Lucy nods. Words arenāt happening right now, not until this is over, not until morning. She just⦠needs, right now, and thereās something primal about it, something sheās accepted, this is the worst of her and it hasnāt gone away and maybe it never does and-
It would be easier to be what she is under other circumstances. Sheās making the best of these. Sheās lucky, she thinks, she has a partner who isn't questioning her behavior too much, who knows-
They are one and the same, she thinks as hands start wandering. Both determined to burn whenever they get the chance. Sheās worse, right now, but she can feel the tension in the way he touches her, the way heās always on the knifeās edge of disaster. Too much, too much-
She makes a desperate sound as she ends up on her back on the bed. They won't talk about this. They don't need to talk about it. Sheāll wake up in the morning with the vaguest idea what happened, and that vague idea will be enough. The details can blur for all she cares.
He straddles her, murmuring something probably but not definitely in a language she doesn't speak. At this point, she isnāt sure she can tell the difference. Heās sober, sheās pretty sure, and going with this the same way he goes with the rest of her bullshit, because this is who they are to each other and thereās no point pretending otherwise and they won't talk about this, she keeps thinking, they won't talk about this, they won't-
She can barely feel their collision. She knows itās happening, and this isnāt what dissociation feels like ā her brain and her body are perfectly tethered, sheās pretty sure, but the volume of the universe has been turned down a few notches. This is something happening to her, not something she is a particularly active participant in. Different from what sheās usually like, but not wrong. She wants, let that be enough, she wants-
Sheās had weirder orgasms. Sheās surprised when it hits, but sheās had weirder. This wasnāt even the goal, more of a nice surprise, and she lets herself be vocal because what does she even have to lose, and-
Thatās the last bit she remembers.
{She can piece together what happens, later. Nothing she didnāt want. Nothing new. Nothing that mattered.}
{She wants what she wants. Whereās the harm in that?}
