I like that we as a people are getting better at speaking up about the transgressions that happen, that maybe bad things that happen to people won’t be ignored simply because people in power make it stop. but, especially here on tumblr, it all feels a little trigger happy. I’ve seen some very legitimate posts about some actually awful people and I’m glad I know about these things now. But I also know for a fact that there have been accusations about people that are baseless or happen simply because a misunderstanding, and there’s no taking that back once it’s out there.
I guess the point of this all is to say that, please use critical thinking when you are given new information about a person (or an event, or a thing). I know as a society we do a lot of victim blaming and don’t believe accusations, but the cure for that isn’t to believe all accusations immediately and without judgement. Then you’re just swinging from one extreme to another, and that doesn’t help it just hurts in a different way.
