Ganzir - An SCP Personification Musing
Ganzir. The fortress city. Humanity's last hope. The greatest stronghold of the GOC.
Ganzir's life is defined by waiting to fulfill a somber and noble purpose. A purpose it wishes didn't feel so inevitable. Constant preparation, constant fear, dressed up in practicality, perhaps justified.
There are other fortress cities, maybe. Certainly other strongholds. Bunkers. Pocket dimensions. But Ganzir doesn't trust them. None of them have its strong walls, its storehouses, its arsenal, its SRA arrays, its armor, its regenerating systems, its determination.
The Silicon Nornir say that "servants built Eurtec, but a God built Ganzir." (Because, https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/because). Ganzir hopes to live up to that. It hopes to live up to everything. It also hopes to live.
As much as it's a fortress, it is a city too, though only one in waiting. Its military garrison awaits a day when civilians might be moved there en masse. Ganzir doesn't know if it can be nourishing, or provide community, or be a good place to raise children. It hopes so. It doubts it. But it knows it can be protective. It knows that it is protection. On some level, that will have to be enough.
Ganzir dreams constantly of what the end will look like. Visions of seas of blood, of an angry red sun, of an ocean of kaiju, of the Foundation gone mad (though most of the GOC trusts the Foundation to be committed to normalcy and humanity's best interests, Ganzir is deeply suspicious). Sometimes it fantasizes about its own fall. If it dies as the last sputtering light, then it will know that it did a good job, that building it was worth it, that it prolonged the end. And it would be freed from the loneliness of the apocalypse.
But that's insane. It must stand for its purpose. Someday, it will be all humanity has.
The Foundation doesn't know about Ganzir (or at least, if it does, that information is deeply compartmentalized, not readily accessed by most departments). But Ganzir knows - or at least suspects - about SCP-2000 beneath Yellowstone. Sometimes its fantasies about falling feel more like memories. It resents having its purpose undermined like that. By the Foundation no less. And yet it can't feel anything but glad for more shots at humanity's survival. That takes precedence over everything, after all.
Not that it expects such a Foundation built imitation to last.
Its human form always wears some form of armor, ranging from simple body armor to GOC white or orange suits. At its core, Ganzir is armor, and fairly proud of it.
