OJT EATS | Gamnamu.zip
The area around Angel has slowly become a pretty good area for Korean Food. Within a 10 minute walk from the station, there are 4 or 5 well rated Korean restaurants of which Gamnamnu.zip is one. It's the sister restaurant of Ogam which is just around the corner and another place we have been meaning to try. That'll have to be one for next time though.
It's a very small menu, half of which are pretty sizeable sharing dishes for 2-3 people and then a few dishes for 1. There are essentially only main dishes on the menu as all the big dishes come with banchan. These apparently rotate on a fairly regular basis because you get what they've devided to make on the day. It's a pretty good spread and they were all really tasty. We particularly enjoyed the shredded potatoes, smashed cucumbers, shredded fish cakes and the pickled radishes.
This was one of the dishes designed for one. It was a mussel broth that came with a bowl of rice. There was a lot of mussels in there but also not much else. It was a super simple broth but really aromatic and with a nice depth of flavour.
This was the main part of our meal and was a dish designed for 2-3 people to share. It's jokbal which is pigs trotters braised in soy sauce and spices. It was a lot of meat and it's all basically from the one trotter so there is a lot of meat rather than just the actual trotter bit which is basically just bone and collagen. It came with some pickles and fresh kimchee along with garlic, soybean paste and lettuce to eat it all with. The meat was tender and fatty with a decent amount of skin on it so just how we like it.
This place is a very family style place with simple but big dishes to be shared with friends and to be paired with alcohol, be it beer, soju or makgeoli. The food we ordered was actually pretty mild in flavour. Next time, we'd definitely get more of the stir fried dishes for one. They look pretty perfect to go with beer. We plan on trying Ogam and Masigo but even just with Gamnamu.zip, the Korean options in Angel definitely look pretty promising.
