⭐️ BOOK REVIEW ⭐️ “What you do to children matters. And they might never forget.” Happy Monday everyone! Over the weekend I finished Toni Morrison’s “God Help the Child.” The novella is a quick read focusing on Bride, now a young woman who reflects on her childhood and fighting for her mother to show her affection. Her mother, Sweetness, distances herself from Bride to “teach her life lessons” because Bride is blue-black or very dark skinned whereas Sweetness is lighter skinned. This causes Bride to make choices in an attempt to gain her mother’s love. I love Morrison’s books 💗 her writing style and the way she describes emotions and the setting always pulls me in. This was one of her darker books that I’ve read with a lot of descriptions of pedophilia/molestation so I would suggest not reading it if you don’t do well with darker books. I wish the story was longer because I felt like the characters fell a little flat and wanted to see how things ended up as there were also a couple of loose ends. Overall I enjoyed the book for addressing difficult topics like overcoming childhood trauma, neglect, and race. I will give the full list of triggers in my stories and CW/TW highlights on my profile. Overall I give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 This book also fit for my #readingwomenchallenge and its the 3rd book for Team Castle Black #gameofthronesreadathon hosted by @whatjasread 👑 #Qotd have you read any books by Toni Morrison? #evavsthealgorithm https://www.instagram.com/p/B7QewUTA_rN/?igshid=1ssj5dk8di2su
