Drarry Exploding Snap - thatâs the thing about truth, my dear (it always comes spilling out)
Authorâs Comments: My first work for the Drarry Exploding Snap Game! It was originally 1100 words but considering my prompt was Write a Drarry fic of 543-605 words following this prompt: Harry or Draco has to tell the truth under the effects of a Truth Spell or Veritaserum. that didnât go too well so I had to delete some stuff! A lot of stuff! ...Iâll be posting the full version on my AO3 later.Â
Summary: During the war, at Malfoy Manor, after Harry, Ron, and Hermione had been caught, what if things had gone a different way? What if Draco Malfoy had done more than refuse to confirm who was in front of him? The truth always comes spilling out â one way or another.Â
Relationship: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter
                             â
âWell, Draco? Is it? Is it Harry Potter?âÂ
Tearing through the forest, Harry didnât let himself slow as he dodged the multiple bodies running alongside him, voices screaming into the night air.
It was a jumble of yelling, Hermioneâs voice rising clear above it all, âVerita Contraindre!â The spell, just as every spell of hers before, hit its target perfectly. âDo you mean to harm us!â
There, running for their lives as they dodged flashes of red and green, Draco Malfoy was compelled and forced to tell the truth.Â
âI canât- I canât be sure.â
âOf course not! I donât want to hurt any of you!â The words were pained and agonzied, sounding as if they were ripped out of Dracoâs throat even as he tried to hold them back. âBut if they tell me to hurt you then I have no choice!â
The last word was clipped, cut off sharply as Harry saw Draco stumble to the ground. Harry didnât pause, grabbing Dracoâs hand and forcing them to keep running.Â
As they ran, he couldnât stop himself, the question tumbling out of him before he could even begin to hold it back, âDid you know it was me? In the foyer, before she saw the sword, did you know?â
âThereâs something there, it could be the scar, stretched tight⌠Draco, come here, look properly! What do you think?â
Draco panted, Harryâs grip the only thing keeping him up as they locked eyes just as they had back then. Back in that moment where Harry had felt his life in Dracoâs hands as the two had stared at each other, a million words swimming in the silence around them.Â
âI always know when itâs you.â The words were torn and shredded from the panting, the screaming and yelling behind them starting to fade for a moment as they ran deeper into the woods, Hermione shouting over the noise.Â
âHarry! Ron! To the cottage! Dean, get over here, now!â Hermione scrambled to reach for Dean, who had Griphook on his back and was struggling to drag in a breath amidst their frantic run for freedom. Ron was already skidding to a stop, linking his arm with Lunaâs, Ollivander perched awkwardly on his back before they were disappearing with a crack.Â
âYou knew.â Harry dragged him over a hill and threw them behind it, dodging a stream of red light as another crack rang through the air. âWhy would you lie to them? Why would you try to protect me!â
âYeah. It could be.âÂ
A laugh tore through the air, loud and hysterical and pleading and begging all at once, âBecause itâs you! Because youâre Harry Potter, the Chosen One, Gryffindorâs fucking Golden Boy! Youâre our last hope of fixing what they ruined!âÂ
âBe grateful Iâm helping at all and get moving!â
âCome with me.â They were getting closer. Harry could hear Bellatrixâs crazed scream and Greybackâs howling. He could feel him, too. âIf you go back theyâll kill you.â
Draco stared at him, storm grey eyes flashing as the pounding of footsteps got closer. âTheyâll kill me if I go with you.âÂ
âTheyâll kill you if you stay.â They would all kill him for daring to betray them. Harry knew that â and Draco did, too. The sounds were closer and Harry knew he had one more moment, one more heartbeat, one more question- âDo you trust me?âÂ
âNo! Not him! Not him!âÂ
âYes.â The answer slipped out as easy and softly as a sigh. âI trust you.âÂ
The third and final crack tore through the air.
