Fuu's Final Interview
Dressed in a sleek dress that was made entirely of hardened and luminescent dragon fly wings, Fuu Kabutomushi waited in the background for the gracious Caesar to announce her to come out so she could give her final interview. Only one more thing and she could go home, so naturally, Fuu was very excited about this. Her token was still around her neck from the arena. It had stayed there ever since she had been picked up. It would never leave her so long as she lived and breathed.
Eventually she heard the sound of Caesar’s booming voice and put on her best smile for the audience. She didn’t have to try that hard to conjure one up. Dusting herself off, she walked onto the stage and faced the audience with the confidence only a victor could.
She was greeted with a heavy applause and screams and shouts from all people present. Caesar stood up and clapped for her as she made her way to the stage. She politely waved back to the crowd as she sat down in her comfy chair. She turned to face Caesar as he sat down and shared a giggle over a comment about the applause Caesar had made. It was he who started the interview.
“Congratulations on your victory, Fuu!” The audience clapped at the word victory and Fuu returned it by giggling and bowing her head towards them. When he regained control, Caesar began the interview for real.
“So Fuu, what went through your head during the games? What was it like, knowing that you had won them?” This question was easy, she had rehearsed a similar one earlier.
“Well, it was a jumble of feelings really. One was shock, another was an overpowering sense of relief, and the last…well..the last was just pure happiness.” Each word she said was like a delicate bell, pure and precise. The capitol ate it all up like it was their last meal.
The questions continued like clockwork. Caesar asking Fuu about life back home and what she would do with the money she obtained. What it felt like to kill for the first time, and other irrelevant questions of that nature. When it was time to replay some of Fuu’s best moments from her games, Fuu kept her eyes open and took in every detail of it. She became aware that she was a bit snarky during the games. She knew that this was because of the pressure and all other sorts of conflicting emotions. No matter, she knew who she was. It didn’t matter what the Capitol thought of her.
Finally, after all was said and done, Caesar said a few words and the capitol erupted into applause as Fuu stood up to leave. However, the second she did, something happened. Her dress began to glow. Each individual wing began to flutter and glow. The sound that was created by the vibrating of the thousands of wings sounded like bells chiming in the distance. They were not rough like normal, but calm and smooth.
After they stopped glowing, Fuu noticed that each wing was starting to grow into an individual dragon fly, each one of them a different color. Suddenly, they all flew off the dress and into the air, zooming through the crowds of people. It was just like magic.
Fuu then realized that she was probably naked. With a shocked expression, she looked down to see that she was in the outfit that she was wearing for the parades, complete with wings and all. The only difference was that on her head there was a small floral crown made up of all kinds of flowers. With a smile, Fuu knew what she was to do. She took a running start and then jumped into the air. Her wings from her outfit kicked in and fluttered about, causing her to fly. With giggles, Fuu flew around the roaring crowd of capitolites, blowing kisses to each and every one she could find. She fluttered out of the building, all of her hopes and dreams laced on the delicate fabric that made up her outfit and wings. She was, in this moment, what she always wanted to be. Free.
