Today I replaced our main menu splash art that looks like this

And made it look like this:

A lunge attack. This creature needed a way to catch up to the player and I couldn’t get him up to speed through traditional running so instead I have him seesaw on his clubs then launch.

Here he is dying.

Flinching from a hit

Idling- it’s so erratic it reminds me of a Heartless but GOOD ENOUGH!

I thought it was kinda cute and they’re not hard enemies so it’s fast. Then I got feedback that for now we want them to really die and we’ll work out narrative later. So I revised it to this.

My team was BIG SAD about it, and I’m like, he’s dying!

I also made a spawn:

And a flinch.

For frame of reference, these are models around 1600 polygons.

I struggled desperately to get the creatures to fit under that cap and resigned myself to what our creatures would look like.

Then I get a message from our art director, “Heeeey so there’s been some confusion. But we don’t have a sixteen hundred poly cap. We have sixteen thousand.”

And then my beautiful creatures could turn into this:

Turnarounds for my tank creature for my year long game team.

Turnarounds for my celestial grunt for my game team.

My school game team will be making a proof of concept game in a year. If all goes well I’ll sculpt, rig, and animate this and another baddie for our game.
