Pontifical mass celebrated in 1705 by Cardinal Louis Antoine de Noailles, archbishop of Paris, at the high altar in Notre-Dame de Paris. This is a gallican rite, the parisian rite, which involves many ministers. Note the Spex, or senior acolyte, who carries a dish in which the paten is kept. He wears an inverted cope called the Soc. The vestments are not as stiff and reduced as they will be later in the 19th century.
